Dancing With The Stars professional dancers Julianne and Derek Hough have partnered with Starz to develop Blackpool, an original series set in the world of international competitive ballroom dancing. The siblings will executive produce and serve as head choreographers for the series, drawing on years of experience as competitors and world dance champions. The series revolves around the prestigious annual ballroom competition in Blackpool, England and will explore the dancer’s obsession with perfection and the darker side of the glamorous world of ballroom dance. “The world of ballroom dance has captivated millions of people around the world, and there are no more recognizable superstars in this arena than Julianne and Derek,” says Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz. “Their experiences growing up in this highly competitive world are riveting and also shocking.”

I produced a couple of the World Ballroom Dance Championships telecasts(when it used to be on PBS and Juliet Prowse hosted. The very real drama behind the camera was great – who is sleeping with who, who is trying to steal who’s partner or coach – each trying to get the most miniscule advantage – and don’t kid yourself these dancers are athletes in the truest sense of the word – they work had, train hard and play harder!
BO-RING
You mean, the plot of “Strictly Ballroom”?
I wish her all the luck in the world and applaud finding the appropriate niche. Maybe now she will GO AWAY and never do another film because lack of authentic emotion shows on camera and there ain’t no dancin that away.
Can’t wait!
It would be great if they’d get Juliana Prowse back as a host. I’d watch for sure if she were involved. This type of show needs a REALLY classy host.
This is wonderful news as I love these two extraordinary talented people. What a joy to read this news. Congratulations to Derek and Julianne.
They cancel a show like BOSS for this…
Sorry Juliet has been dead for quite a few years..she was replaced by Barbara Eden..Juliet was one of the best dancers to ever grace a stage and is sadly missed..by the many Gypsies who worked with her.
