EXCLUSIVE: After each of them has co-created a TBS series, Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) and Cheers alum Rob Long have teamed for a multi-camera comedy project, which has landed a pilot order at TBS. The network has greenlighted Do It Yourself, created and executive produced by Becker and Long and produced internally at Turner. It tells the story of Nick, a 20-something laid-off math teacher who finds himself thrust into the blue collar world when he gets a job at that most American of retail institutions: the big box home supply store. Nick quickly becomes the de facto leader of his band of misfit coworkers while also figuring out ways to redefine what it means to be a teacher. Becker and Michael LeSieur created TBS’ hourlong fraternity comedy series Glory Daze, which ran for one season. Long and Steve Byrne co-created TBS’ multi-camera comedy Sullivan & Son, which has been renewed for a second season. Also today, we broke the news that Becker has signed on to direct Sex On The First Date, a romantic comedy for Gold Circle Films.

If TBS knew what was right for them, they would order that Tom Brady script to pilot. It’s brilliant. Could be one of the great work coms.
Awesome for both guys. Can’t believe this concept hasn’t been done before, but it sounds promising.
Yet again proving that TBS does not in fact know comedy.
Is this the best they could come up with? Oy!
Rob Long’s “Martini Shot” is a must-listen to “behind-the-scenes-in-Hollywood” show on KCRW http://www.kcrw.com/etc/programs/ma
If you don’t know it, check it out.
(And while I don’t know Rob, I love his POV!)
Congratulations!!!
My hope is that this show does well for one very good reason. To hopefully get the insufferable Rob Long off of public radio! His “Martini Shot” is so pointless and whiney that his actually getting a job in town will probably only make it worse! I honestly, forgot he was on the air (until it was mentioned here) because I switched over to KPCC over 3 years ago. (Just like my donations did.) In short, if you can afford to pay for that kind of programming, you don’t need my money.
To keep this on topic. Boo to TBS, the best comedy you still have to offer is reruns of BBT. Nice promos btw!
