The CW is writing off midseason Tuesday drama Cult after two low-rated airings. Beginning next week, the serialized drama will move to Friday, airing at 9 PM. The CW will air repeats in Cult‘s Tuesday 9 PM slot, beginning with Beauty And The Beast next week. Cult debuted with an underwhelming 0.3 in adults 18-49 last week and matched that number last night. Still, the project went further than the conventional Hollywood wisdom would suggest. Sci-fi veteran Rockne S. O’Bannon wrote it for the 2005-06 development season when it landed a pilot order at the WB but the project became a casualty of the UPN/WB merger and the pilot was never produced. Six years later, O’Bannon’s updated Cult script got another pilot order at the CW, got made and went to a series, albeit short-lived.

Another Flop for Fake Empire/Josh Schwartz thank god WB gave him the boot…CW may have a chance now
Wow! Two and out. The track record of the CW (a so-called network) is outstanding in their failures. No pun intended, but, perhaps this show will develop a cult following on Fridays (like Fringe did) although I highly doubt it. The difference being that Fringe was actually a good well-done program. It’s truly amazing the CW didn’t try and spin these lousy numbers. The CW must be using that new “creative” math, because according to them every one of their programs is a breakout hit, even, when terrible demo/overall numbers say otherwise. When will the CW accept the reality that is staring them right in the face?
Wish he could bring back Farscape.
Cult was such a fun pilot script but I haven’t seen a single ad for the show and the CW really is a nonstarter for people looking for compelling TV.
If I was thirteen I’d be all over it but at 24, no thanks.
Another show that needs to be shown the door after two horrible episodes and bad ratings to boot. NBC and CW are truly on a roll, aren’t they? But with one exception…they’re going in reverse.
Extremely enjoyable show that is very well made. I honestly think that the problem is that people are just too lazy to pay close enough attention to follow what is going on — several posters about the show on other sites mentioned that they didn’t like it because they didn’t know what was going on or couldn’t follow it I am all for the move to Fridays. At least it will get to stay on the air for those people who like it.
There’s nothing to pay attention to. It’s a horrible concept that’s executed poorly to boot. I like Teabag and Tol. I hope they both find better shows after this. Even Davis is ok. But man oh man, this was just not good. Waste of decent actors.
I agree it caught me simply because I am interested in the topic of Cults and secret societies but of course most Americans think it’s just conflict theorist bs it’s sad how dead people’s minds and imaginations have come to. Just like ABC’s 666 Park Ave, something about the elite being evil apparently isn’t good tv and I beg to differ. But all in all we don’t live in a free-thinking world anymore, people are to lazy to indulge in the controversial. They want to dumb down their minds with Jwow & Snookie and any other crap reality show people come up with.
I forgot to add that this show is obviously a puzzle piece that the writer intended viewers to try and put together. People like to be told what to think, it just makes life easier, when you try to challenge the mental capacity of the masses you will always fail. It’s mind boggling that people dislike this show yet watch Lost which was utter crap and had absolutely no meaning to real life, there are actual cults in the world, yet a mysterious island full of stranded people is sooooo much more relative to viewers.
Cult is pretty stinky and The CW is just awful. If any of you agents or managers reading this, GET YOUR ACTORS OFF THAT NETWORK if you want them to have any kind of career.
Perhaps it can thrive there ala x files
It’s much better that way.
I really dug the pilot. Love Matt Davis. Didnt even know that it started airing??? Give it some promotion
Lexx was better than Farscape!
Lexx was to weird to be better than Farscape, though Xev/Zev was a great character and both actresses were awesome in the role. But then, Farscape had Chiana, who I liked more.
I looked back to Jan. 18..cant even remember what was on after Nikita but now that Fringe is done, Touch is in. I wanted to give Cult a chance, but need it in the right time slot. Ever think of taking those stupid Seinfeld reruns off @ 9PM (cst). No Carrie reruns..please NO reruns. I watch at least 1 Cw show almost every nite. But whats wrong with Sat. night no 1st runs EVER!! OMG I am so sick of Law & Order everywhere I look. Try Cult on Sat.what have you got to lose. Thanks!
Um, the CW doesn’t program on Saturdays. The network also doesn’t program in the 9pm Central hour — just from 7pm-9pm Central. If you don’t like the syndicated programming that airs on your CW channel, take it up with your local affiliate. CW doesn’t program that stuff and can’t “move” a show to 9pm Central.
Didn’t even know this had premiered. Shows how good their P&A campaign was.
I look forward to a changing of the guard at ABC and CW. From Arrow to Revenge… what happened to original programming?
It seems like nearly every mid-season show is suffering the fate of extremely low ratings. It will be interesting to see if that carries over this fall.
)riginal script was truly brilliant and unique…but it hung around too long, got dated, and then was rewritten and executed with a breathtaking lack of competence. I still can’t quite grasp that this was the show that came out of that original script…BEYOND BELIEF.
The fake show within the show is more compelling and has more charismatic actors. They went with “high concept” but it just came across as a confusing story with boring lead actors.
This show is definitely dead on arrival. The CW has got to stop putting its new shows in competitive time slots. I thought moving this show to 9pm on Friday would be good, but that’s the same time as Grimm and Touch and I do not think Cult will stand a chance against these shows.
I agree…CW should have put it on at 8 or 10 on Fridays since there’s no competition….I’m not giving up Grimm or Touch for Cult!!! All 3 shows appeal to the same audience! Dumb move, CW…and you aren’t even available ON DEMAND on my Cablevision!
This shows is sooooooo worse than “Do No Harm”, which had more viewers in its first two episodes than this show did, and prolly won’t surpass until its 10th one…that is if CW keeps it on. Lately, been disappointed in CWs actions as of late. Cult is like pulp without juice. So this is why Alaric was abruptly killed off…to that there would be a star for this dumb show? Also what’s dumb is this VD story about Silas. I thought VD was against the Twlight tip, but now it seems that VD is picking up where Twilight left off, which is presenting stupid stories and making the prime focus to be the main girl character and the love triangle/trapezoid battle between the main characters. VD lost its integrity. So there’s 3 strikes in total, Cult, the Silas crap, and the death of Alaric to make pulp err…cult. Oh, there’s a 4th strike, which is the dumb season finally of Smallville. With ten seasons of devoted fans, you give them garbage in the end..also Smallville dared to touch on certain aspects of Superman, but failed to get deep and complete the story (ie the Justice League, Doomsday, Darkseid, and many many more). That series finale made me determine that it’s not worth go to Netflix and watch it all over again (you basically gave your devoted fans for 10 years junk like how that old-school movie called, “The Player” had tried to describe… Shame on you Tom Wellin), Cult is in the same boat, and VD is heading there. Supernatural is the only bread winner CW got and Arrow is promising. I think CW is trying to feel themselves a little to much… They trying to be like FX without the power to back it up. FX has the movies, and the CW has a bunch of corny shows.
The show has my interest albeit I just happened to find it, not very good promotion I guess.
The cult is awesome, but pick a day, time, and stick with it. Maybe put it with supernatural on friday
Cult is DOA. Both Nakita and Supernatural only survived the CW kiss of death time slot due to an already devoted fanbase, which is something Cult cannot boast, because it was not given proper time to build one. The one and only reason I watched this show was because it had Robert Knepper and no one can deny that he is extremely charismatic at playing the guy you hate to love. A move to the kiss of death time slot after only two episodes so they can put reruns of crap on in the original time slot just confirms the death of this show. Which is too bad for Knepper because I really wanted to see him regularly on TV again.
Lol so you’re an agent and know what will help or hurt a career ? Glad you spend time commenting on such a “terrible show”
I personally love it ! It’s intriguing, you have to use your brain and for you oh so talented self appointed tv critics that may be pretty tough.
Fridays are fine with me, the show is awesome ! Sadly the CWs viewers are not too interested in such a free thinking show !
I like the show just saw that it air I have been watching the show on my on demand.
