EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has pushed the release date for The Hobbit: There And Back Again to December 17, 2014 from its original date of July 18, 2014. This is the final film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy adaptation of the JRR Tolkien novel. Hobbit 3 now avoids going up against X-Men: Days Of Future Past and so far is solo in the December 17th spot. The first film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has pulled in $300.9M domestically and $979.9M worldwide since it was released on December 14, 2012. The second installment in the franchise, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, will be released on December 13th.

The Battle of *Six* Armies?
Did they ever intend on releasing in July? Seems like a dummy move given that all other Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies were December releases. It’s a good move though, it would have been terrible if the hobbit knocked X-Men’s feet out from under it making the studio re consider part three in the First Class trilogy.
Good. Maybe they can figure out until then how to make that 48FPS crap not look so unbelievably horrible. I couldn’t get into the movie because everything looked like it was shot like an Infomercial, and everything was in focus. What a horrible decision by the filmmakers.
Yeah. I hate it when everything is in focus. I like blurry images where I can’t see what I’m looking at…..
Your lovely snark aside, I’m with Gregstor. The human eye doesn’t focus on everything at once, but shifts from the foreground to the distance, and it looks wrong (to my eyes, at least) with the new frame rate look.
Can’t disagree more. I loved the 48 fps and it also made me enjoy 3D (Which I normally hate with a passion). I don’t understand why people had a problem with it… I loved having crystal clear images
Who asked you to watch 48 frames/s? You had a choice, you bought the tickets so stop bitching.
Well, I suppose this will benefit X-Men: Days of Future Past, but I was looking forward to seeing how well The Hobbit would do during the summer when “every day is a holiday.”
WB — please consider a few HFR screens in 2D.
Summer was never going to happen. These guys are already double dipping on the Blu-ray releases – a theatrical cut in March & an Extended Cut later in the year – & leaving only six months between theatrical releases wouldn’t give WB enough time.
Summer was NEVER going to happen.
ALSO – In my area (Washington DC) all the 3D showings & especially HFR 3D showings of The Hobbit Part 1 were the first to get kicked out of theaters. The 2D prints stuck around a long time & I can’t imagine Monsters Inc 3D & Texas Chainsaw 3D could chase away that many shows.
I bet FOX are breathing a sigh of relief.
The Hobbit III may be the only release scheduled for the end of 2014, now, but that won’t last. December is the traditional month for Oscar hopefuls because they will be fresh in the Academy’s mind for nominations. Which is probably the real reason that WB and PJ have pushed the release date back, to make it more likely to pick up a few Oscars.
One movie turned to three, made everyone involved and extra 2 Billion dollars (pending each one does the same BO). Crazy!
If it’s anything like Hobbit 2, other films need not worry. Hobbit 2 which was the worst film ever. The fact that I had to pay extra for 3D irked me even more.
Uhhh so yeah, The Hobbit 2 has not released yet so when you get back from the future Egolite please let us know who won the 2014 super bowl too so I can bet on it moron!
It was all in the Sports Almanac….his real name is Marty btw
This is the first movie download for my I pad and I loved it. It was as if by moving the tablet you could look around corners and over cliffs. A handheld I-Max!
I disagree with a few of these people I like. The Lord of the rings tirlogy and liked this just as much
