UPDATED: Cheers‘ Kirstie Alley and Rhea Perlman and Seinfeld‘s Michael Richards are officially returning to primetime. TV Land has given a 12-episode series order to Alley’s multi-camera comedy, which was titled Giant Baby at the pilot stage. It is now being renamed Kirstie’s New Show and will premiere in the fall. Created by Marco Pennette, it revolves around Madison “Maddie” Banks (Alley), a Broadway star who finds her life turned upside down when Arlo (Eric Petersen), her long-lost son, turns up looking to connect after his adopted mother dies. Perlman plays Maddie’s assistant and best friend; Richards plays Maddie’s outlandish driver. “This cast is a TV Land dream team of stars,” said TV Land President Larry W. Jones. “Seeing them all together is truly mind-blowing.” Gilles Marini guest starred in the pilot as Maddie’s chef. It is unclear if he will continue on the show as recurring. Of TV Land’s two other pilots, the multi-camera Brothers-in-Law is dead, while I’m Not Dead Yet is living up to its title and is still in contention. Kirstie’s New Show, which ends a two-year quest by TV Land to get a show with the sitcom star on the air, is executive produced by Pennette, Alley and her manager Jason Weinberg. Alley announced the pickup in a YouTube video:
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

So excited that Michael Richards is back. This is a great cast.
Love me some Kirstie! With her and that cast I’m definitely gonna check this out.
What does this mean for Happily Divorced? It was quite stable this winter, almost always retaining 100% of Hot In Cleveland’s lead in.
I remember way back when there was a possibility of Kirstie & Rhea being in an abc pilot(can’t remember the name of it),but,it wasn’t picked up. I don’t care if it’s Tv Land or whereever-I’m happy! It’s wonderful news having these funny ladies back on tv on a regular basis. Add to that having Sammy on CSI & life is good!
“Kirstie’s new show” is a awful title
DITTO! But what can you do with big ego actors? REALLY BAD TITLE!
GO JW!!!
With good writers, this could be huge!
Hope the writing is better than it is on other TV Land sitcoms.
Well finally sounds like something with potential to go with Hot In Cleveland. And btw Hot In Cleveland is better than most network shows so not sure what you’re watching @Gobnait. And I don’t work on the show. Let’s hope the writing is better than Two Broke Girls.
I must agree that Hot in Cleveland is better than any other sitcom on broadcast networks. I think they must have changed writers cause season four is unbelievably good. It’s worthy of Emmy nods for Best Comedy Series and Best Leading Actress (Wendie Malick).
How right you are, Daniel! “Hot in Cleveland” is the best-written comedy series on TV and improves with each season. The network sitcoms (none of which I watch) should be half as funny.
The show sounds totally awesome and I cannot wait to see it, however with that title it is DOOMED!
Have the TV producers not noticed that shows with terrible titles are bombing; “Apt 23″; “Bleep My Dad Says”; “GCB” etc.
Rename it and it has a chance. I am so in love with TV Land now; “Hot In Cleveland”; “Happily Divorced” and “The Exes” are 3 of my favourite sitcoms at the moment.
LOVE……..LOVE…the cast…I still watch “Cheers”,…on Hallmark….Looking foirward to seeing the :New” guy…wow…Eric Petersen….GREAT CAST…..Looking forward to the show
@Daniel,the writing could not possibly be worse than on Two Broke Girls.
As long as they pick up the other two pilots (read both scripts, HILARIOUS), I am fine with this. Michael Richards is hilarious in moderation, and if they play clueless sociopaths, Alley and Perlman can be very effective. Still, Brothers-in-Law was a really funny script, and I’m Not Dead Yet is one of the best I ever read.
TV Land apparently passed on Brothers-In-Law. Though, I’m Not Dead Yet is still apparently in contention. However, I imagine they’ll soon make up their minds on it so that the actors on it can know whether or not they need to go all out for pilot season or not.
I think “Kirstie´s New Show” is just a working title… They know that it won´t be Giant Baby but haven´t diceded how to call it so they labeled it in the “pick up” video “Kirstie´s New Show”…
I’m so excited! Not only about Kirstie, but Rhea and Michael too! I can’t wait, it is going to be so huge. If they have the right writers, and allow the cast to run with what they know…I can’t wait.
I can’t wait but it would be nice if these shows were actually around longer than 12 episodes
