FX’s new Cold War spy drama The Americans saw a significant boost for its second episode with DVR viewership. Live+3 data shows the freshman series’ February 6 airing jumping up 58% in total viewers and among adults 18-49. With the show’s first episode getting a 44% DVR increase in total viewers, the 58% increase for Episode 2 is a record for FX in Live+3 increases from a premiere episode to a second episode. The percentage gain is noticeably higher that the same spread on other FX series like Justified (10% increase) American Horror Story (6% increase) and Sons Of Anarchy (1% decrease). Adding in the Live+3, viewership of the 10-11:06 PM second episode of the show last week hit 3.11 million and 1.69 million among the key demo — up 1.115 million in overall viewership and 622,000 in the key demo from the Live+Day results. Those numbers are far better for the Matthew Rhys- and Keri Russell- starring show than the steep drop-off of 40% in viewership that Live+Same Day results gave the new series’ second episode. The Americans’ premiere had a 49% DVR increase among adults 18-49 and a 44% increase among total viewership.

Spin.
This isn’t too surprising…..where I live the show airs at 11pm. Not too many people can stay up for that.
I was one of those people who watched week 2 on DVR. It’s an excellent show and I’m glad I gave it a second chance after being impressed but not “wowed” by the pilot.
How is it that Sons of Anarchy’s audience DECREASES when DVR viewing if factored in?
This was the best opener for a series I’ve seen in a long time! Very clever. Husband programed it,he missed – I watched it! Loved it!
I saw the pilot. I really wish they had gotten some Russian actors who are Americanized. The actors are not believable and their character really don’t seem like they got a Soviet education. The episode was very well-written, but would have been better executed in the hands of someone who has spent extensive time in Russia, not someone trying to create a cheesy 80s feel to everything. The whole dichotomy of the show – Russian spies at home, Americans to the world – is just not present in a convincing way. Too bad…
this is BY FAR the best new show this season Secondary characters are very good and plot lines and execution is reviting.
Main characters have an edge to them and are well developed and dimensional. Keep it going!
I love love love this show! I do not have a DVR. I also work irregular and longish hours. Then I often meet friends after work on short notice. I have given up on following tv shows during ongoing seasons and instead rely on Netflix. I’m making sure I see this show! Don’t want to wait until the dvds come out. And c’mon, Matthew Rhys is hot.
I love this show. A smart, engrossing, adult thriller and I love the cat and mouse game between Phillip and Elizabeth & FBI Agent neighbor, Stan. I like all 3 of the acting stars and love that they just added the great Margo Martindale to the cast as their shady, new KGB honcho. A must watch.
Kgb agents would be just like any american that’s how thay got away w/it cuz u can’t tell them apart from americans.the shows right on.
