The new season of The Amazing Race (2.4/6) started off at LA’s Griffith Observatory however the series itself did not get off on its best footing. Down 14% from last year’s February 19, 2012 Spring premiere, Sunday’s season 22 debut was the lowest debut ever for the long running CBS series. Not that it was that much of a slide. The September 30, 2012 season 21 premiere of the global competition series garnered a 2.5/6 matching a previous Race series low debut. With CBS’ primetime Sunday delayed 5 minutes in the Eastern and Central times zones due to an overrun from PGA Tour Golf, last night’s ratings could see a greater than usual adjustment in final numbers.
As The Amazing Race hit a low, ABC’s Once Upon A Time and Revenge (1.8/4) rose from one last night. Without facing off against the Grammys, the fantasy drama was bopped up 5% and the late night soap jumped 29% from last week’s series low for both shows. CBS’s dramas however did drop on Sunday. Back after three weeks, The Good Wife (1.4/3) was down 7% – hitting a series low for the show. The Mentalist (1.5/4) was also down, falling 21% from its last original on January 27.. Both network news magazine shows also took a hit last night. Airing just after 7 PM, CBS’ 60 Minutes (1.3/4) was down 28% from its February 10 show while Dateline NBC was down 33% from its last Sunday original back on January 6. Otherwise NBC showed back-to-back repeats of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers at 8 PM (0.9/2) and 8:30 PM (1.0/2) and a Saturday Night Live In The 90s: Pop Culture Nation (1.4/3) special. Starting the night with America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.5/4), which was down 17% from last week, ABC ended Sunday with a repeat of its new Anthony Edwards conspiracy drama Zero Hour (0.9/2)
Fox’s Animation block was full of ups and down last night. Starting with an encore of The Simpsons (0.9/2), the network’s Sunday saw a new The Cleveland Show (1.1/3) fall 21% from last week. An original Simpsons (2.0/5) was flat with its February 10 show while Bob’s Burgers went up 6%. Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy (2.4/6) dipped 4% from its last show last week while the Oscar host’s other series American Dad slipped 5%. CBS won the night in total viewers with 9.17 million watching. Fox topped Sunday among Adults 18-49.

Ohh my ohhhh my! Network raitings ????Look out for the tidal wave of new media !!!!
NETFLIX ! HOUSE OF CARDS the best show on the tube!!!! Not to mention HEMLOCK GROVE coming soon…..is network dead?
Hardly dead. Look at the numbers. Broadcast is actually growing. Netflix is just another viewing option. House Of Cards is dull. Hopefully Hemlock and Arrested pick up the pieces.

Revenge is my favorite. Hope it stays on for a long time. Two other favorites of mine are The Good Wife and The Mentalist. Big mistake… Puting them on Sunday nights. Didn’t bother staying up waiting for them after football. All shows on after Sunday night football are in trouble.CBS should have learned from past shows. They just don’t make it.
Last night’s episode of THE GOOD WIFE was one of the best but I would not have known it was on if I was not reminded by my mother who still looks at the tv schedule in her newspaper everyday. The show seems to arbitrarily be on every third Sunday. wtf cbs?!? I love this show don’t bury it for me!
As much as I enjoy The Good Wife, its days may be numbered. It’s not quite the critical darling it used to be, so CBS may be less willing to put up with these ratings.
Glad to know Revenge was up. I really like that show. I think the networks really should consider either shortened seasons or filming more episodes. Long breaks are doing harm to many programs. The Mentalist is a good program, but,of course its’ numbers were down after such a long break. Inconsistent scheduling isn’t helping anyone. I mean, most of the time you hardly know when we are going to be graced by new episodes of our favorite programs. The networks truly need to come up with better scheduling as their current way of stretching episodes out over such a long television season is getting past the point of being ridiculous.
i so Agree… When will the nitwits at the networks realize.. when you take a show off every couple of weeks for “a couple of weeks” this remote controlled Society watches something else. 24 used to have ONE break during its season.. and people tuned in. Cable shows flourish cuz they are not pre-empted by BS programming. The network execs sit at their desks with their finger up their butts wondering..DUHH..where did the viewers go? they were here 4 weeks ago… Enuff said
The ratings were hit because it was a holiday weekend. Happens every time.
I stopped watching because of the crazy scheduling and way too many commercials. Had nothing to do with the holiday.
What about all that LOUD crazy music that is on every show now?????
We have been turning off TV because of that. I also agree with the everyone else-shows are on then off-& what about appealing to the 18-49 yr old-I odn’t think most 18 year olds know what they want.
But that is the mentality of whoever run the network shows.
It was President’s day… not really a “holiday” weekend.
I don’t buy this whole “holiday” affecting the ratings thing. How exactly does a President’s day holiday weekend affect the ratings? If any of you out there would elaborate-I’d appreciate it.
I got back from a long weekend out-of-town trip and I was hardly alone as the airports were extremely packed. I’ll be watching the shows I recorded last night this evening sometime.
Just because you stay at home and watching TV during holiday weekends doesn’t mean others are doing the same thing.
Most of us don’t get President’s Day off, which may be what he was referring to Joanne. I’m glad you got to take a trip, but for the rest of the world this weekend just like any other, aside from some furniture sales.
Wonder what the season finale of “Downton Abbey” meant in all this. A definite factor.
Also Downton Abbey had its season 3 finale..opposite the Good Wife..and checking my FB feed andTwitter and Get Glue..many were watching it..who needs the Neilsons…the social networks are more accurate!
Had my DVR all set to record “The Good Wife” and then found the show didn’t start until 9:04. My DVR cut off at 10 so I would have missed the last few minutes. So I didn’t watch it at all. When is CBS going to move thi8s show and stop frustrating viewers with this madness!
CBS keeps screwing with viewers of The Good Wife — putting on Sundays after live football games, which inevitably delay the showing for indeterminable periods, dropping off for weeks, etc. What genius takes their best offering and plays around with its viewers, when there are so many other options available? Fire these execs and get real people who understand what it is to become emotionally invested in a cast and storyline.
I thought Revenge would rebound to a (2.0) but considering Once Upon a Time didn’t really budge it got pulled down.
:SPOILERS:
Considering Revenge killed off my favorite character last night I guess I’m not too upset. It’s still my favorite network show but going forward it should be quite different. I hope Margarita Levieva lands a starring role on a new pilot. I know ABC has nine drama pilots with no castings announced yet so I’m hopeful.
This was one of the best THE GOOD WIFE eps *of this awful season* — albeit that kiss between Alicia und Mr. Water-under-the-bridge might be the dumbest thing. The most forced, nonsensical, incomprehensible move ever that didn’t ring true on any level. What’s the point now? Let the dead rest and bring in some really hot new guy.
Loved the 4th years sticking together. Judging from Cary’s face, there will be war. I hope that Alicia will continue to secretly meet with them and fight against those LG jerks. With the help of kickass Kalinda. Is Eli’s storyline going anywhere?
REVENGE finally back on track with an exciting episode that changes everything. (Much like THE WALKING DEAD rose from the ashes.)
As for Good Wife, I assume people are just tired of being preached to. This same phenomenon killed Law & Order (the final season may as well been subtitled “What Part of the US Does McCoy Hate This Week”) and while it may play well on the coasts, the rest of the country reacts with a suitably sized yawn.
Not a single show going above 2.4 on a Sunday in the middle of February. It just gets worse and worse each year. Broadcast TV networks are dying a slow death.
‘The Simpsons’ was hilarious last night. I already saw the short Maggie Simpsons In ‘The Longest Daycare’ when it was played infron of ‘Ice Age 4 – Continental Drift’. It is funny and it was great to see it again with last nights hilarious episode.
CBS is stupid, why the hell did they move ‘The Mentalist’ to Sundays?! It was another great episode!
