Schindler’s List will air on USA Network at 8 PM Saturday, February 23 as part of USA’s public service campaign Characters Unite, a program created to promote greater tolerance and acceptance. It will be presented commercial-free with a personal introduction by director Steven Spielberg. The broadcast is in commemoration of USA’s third Character Unite month and coincides with the film’s 20th anniversary. “Without question, Schindler’s List is one of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen,” NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Chairman Bonnie Hammer said today in a statement. “It’s the ultimate example of the profound difference an individual can make when he takes a stand against hate and intolerance.” The Oscar-winning film tells the true story of Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson). Initially a member of the Nazi party, the Catholic Schindler risks his career and life to save over 1,100 Jews in his factory during the Holocaust. The February 23rd broadcast also happens to be on the eve of the Academy Awards, in which Spielberg’s latest film Lincoln is a leading contender with 12 nominations.

By far Spielberg’s best film!!!! Too bad Lincoln doesn’t live up to it, especially with all the historical inaccuracies in Lincoln.
Airing less than 24 hours before the Academy Awards? How convenient…
Convenient how? The votes would have already been in, no?
Ordered this on Blu Ray and am very much looking forward to it! I’ll at least tape the intro by Spielberg since that probably won’t be included on the Blu Ray release.
Such a better film than Lincoln — or anything else nominated this year.
my parents were helped by Mr. schindler so that i give him my live
I wonder if it will air unedited? If I remember correctly, Schindler’s List aired on NBC unedited, except for a couple of sex scenes.
I believe NBC did the same thing when the first aired this in around ’97? Also, they showed the film uncut, with limited commercial interruption. BTW, what sex scenes? Ive seen the film in the theatres and on pay cable-all I remember is the nudity surrounding the death camps, which really wasnt tittilating!
Will this be the same Speilberg intro that aired on NBC? Or a new one?
Yes, you are correct.
Love this movie and the work that USA does with Characters Unite. Disappointed that a movie that is important to so many, including a Jewish audience, is being shown on a night that is an important Jewish Holiday celebration…Purim. Many people will be involved in Purim celebrations that night from about 6pm-9;30 pm depending on the length of the services…an evening of costume parades and noisemakers, a celebration for the entire family, so I guess it will be DVR night…
Purim celebrates the same thing that Schindler’s List does, but in Persia…thousands of years earlier…So there is a connection, and perhaps if that connection was made to be part of the movie presentation, perhaps that learning moment would make the movie and its message even more powerful…
Jewish 101 “Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination.”
The most powerful movie about late modern history. Should be a requirement for high school graduating seniors to view and do a paper on. Twenty years and this movie this evokes tremendous emotion. Let us never forget this tragedy or that we are the protectors of Israel.
First time i seen this movie was on pbs, i was probably nine…. I was switching channels and seen it and i just sat down…. I love this movie, i cried and was so mad….. Steven spil…..your great
Yesterday, USA channel had the commercial-free Schindler’s List on. I again sat mesmerized watching that epic movie, just as I did twenty years ago when it was released. I wonder, would I have the courage to do what Oskar Schindler did? What a thrill it must have been to work on such a historical gift like that movie. Part of my heritage is Lithuanian and a few years ago I found out many Lithuanians gladly worked with the SS in rounding up Jews. I often wonder… did my relatives participate? Maybe I don’t want the answer to that. I do ask often.. am I doing enough for humanity? Am I making any kind of difference?
Does anyone know if USA will run it again or make it available on demand?
