MTV announced today that Will Ferrell will be the first-ever recipient of the Comedic Genius Award, created to honor an actor who has “provided a major influence through their work” and “transformed the genre.” MTV president Stephen Friedman quoted Ferrell’s Anchorman character Ron Burgundy when he said, “Simply put, Will Ferrell is ‘kind of a big deal’.” Rebel Wilson will host the MTV Movie Awards which air on April 14 at 9:00PM ET from the Sony lot in Culver City.

Why? If you seen him once, you’ve seen him. The next generation Chevy Chase.
I couldn’t agree with RPF more. Ferrell is a one-trick pony. I can’t grab the TV remote faster when he appears on screen.
Odd choice, no?
Why do they need to create this stupid award instead of giving him that legacy, lifetime tribute thing they were handing out a few years ago to people like Christopher Nolan. It’s the same thing, a bought award to promote something they have coming out. And you know that if they keep it up (they never do), Ben Stiller or Jack Black will end up getting it next when he has a movie coming out.
He’s not funny anymore, now he’s just very very annoying.
Will Ferrel is a comedy icon. Nobody does it better. He embodies the true spirit of the Catalina Wine Mixer.
MTV should get back to the music and stop this silly mumbo jumbo award stuff.
