New York City – Writers Guild of America, East today announced that it will honor current Secretary-Treasurer Bob Schneider with its annual Richard B. Jablow Award, named after the Guild’s first counsel who helped found the organization and authored its constitution, for devoted service to the Guild. The honor will be presented to Schneider by last year’s recipient Susan Kim, during the 65th Annual Writers Guild Awards, at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City on Sunday, February 17, 2013.
“I am thrilled and proud that my good friend and colleague Bob Schneider is receiving this year’s Jablow Award from the Writers Guild East. As our current secretary-treasurer and past vice president and council member, Bob has been a stalwart, outspoken and effective defender of our union. And as a trustee of the Writers Guild-Industry Health Fund and the Producers-Writers Guild of America Pension Plan, he has stood on the frontline protecting our members and insuring that they receive the care and protection they need. I can think of no more worthy recipient,” said Michael Winship, President of WGAE.
Schneider, who is also currently Chairman of the National Council, first joined the Guild in 1988, and has been a trustee representing the Writers Guild East on the Producer-Writers Guild of America Pension Plan and Writers Guild-Industry Health Fund since 2005. He served as Vice President of the Council for four years and prior to that as a council member for a year. He has participated on several committees such as the Constitution Review Committee, Screen Credits Review Committee and, in his own words, “regrettably named, Stalinist sounding ‘Committee for an Informed Membership.’”
Schneider co-wrote the film Normal Life (2008) and has written for television series such as Monsters and the ABC Afterschool Special, Stood Up!
