Simon Cowell’s talent contest failed to generate the ratings that Fox needed, and execs expected. “We went into the competition round [hoping] to get fresh energy,” COO Chase Carey told analysts in a conference call. ”And it was a disappointment for us. It didn’t occur.” That’s one reason why “we didn’t have a great fall…Clearly that was disappointing for us.” Fox execs wanted to regroup after a “choppy October” with the run up to the election, the World Series, and Hurricane Sandy. “We hoped to relaunch Mob Doctor and other shows,” Carey says. “We thought we could bring them back to a better place. That didn’t occur.” Now “we need to have shows break out.” He isn’t pointing any fingers. “Sometimes you’re going to have a tough three months….But we feel like we’ve got a really good team.” Can American Idol, which returned last month, turn things around? “Idol is in early stages, very much a work in progress,” he says.

Is he joking? I mean…MOB DOCTOR just says it all…. seriously!!
Idol is getting beat by The Big Bang Theory… FOX You should have canceled so many of your dramas last season…. You should have kept and retooled Terra Nova..
I predict X-factor wont last past season 3..
American Idol Has 2 more seasons then it will be finally gone….. Fox you should Consider Adding an hour for each night of primetime like NBC, CBS, ABC.. Quit hiding like CW
They shot themselves in the foot with the judges for “X Factor”. One of the big reasons “The Voice” trounced them in the ratings is because all four judges bring credibility to the proceedings; Simon felt forced to hire one judge who he berated publicly for years as someone who couldn’t sing (Britney) and then a truly puzzling addition in Demi Levato, who lacked star power, a veteran presence, and is more known for her personal issues more than Spears is. It’s hard to imagine any contestant on the show who would take her seriously (and several contestants did not, as clips of the show available on YouTube illustrated), so I don’t imagine a lot of viewers did either. And there’s just not enough to distinguish it from the glut of similar shows; The Voice has several in terms of the audition stages, the team element built on contestants the judges have to fight for themselves, and a heavy emphasis on the skill of the performers. There isn’t a compelling hook for “The X Factor” to hook new viewers.
Simon has never publicly berated Britney. When people would ask him what he thought of her he always said that she may not have had vocal chops, but she had star quality and was a good entertainer. He invited her to The X Factor UK in 2009 to perform. They also did a theme night of her songs.
X FACTOR too little, too later. IDOL old and lost its way. Time to 86 this genre and move on. Need more compelling prime time dramas. BONES is soft and FOLLOWING is still a question mark. Carey supports his team, which is good, but they had better deliver some stronger fare … and fast!
I’d love to know why they ordered another season of X-Factor after they already tried to “re-launch” once to no avail. How about we call a spade a spade here. Sheesh.
I knew X Factor will go down the drain as soon as I heard they fired Paula Abdul. That was a proof they are gonna do what everybody else is doing – get a star to pretend they are there for the contestants and not to promote themselves. At least Paula cared and she was sincere and that’s what I loved about her. Oh, and that Simon Cowell they hired for X Factor is an imposter. You should replace him with Simon Cowell that used to judge Idol.
It’s unfortunate that such an obviously poor show like “X Factor” is given so many chances when other innovative ideas are so quickly shot down in the concept/pilot phase.
I love X Factor, but Fox screwed it over. Baseball delays, up against Big Bang Theory and Voice the 1st few weeks. Half-assed judge in Britney Spears. Wooden and bland hosts. I agree this is too little too late. I hope idol dies before though..
Should have kept Terra Nova.
When Britney Spears left off the show something was wrong in the first place, i don’t care to much for Simon Cowell i don’t like his personality that well i think that his character totally sucks.
Now I’m not a fan of X Factor but I would have assumed the show was the ONLY bright side of Fox’s fall lineup.
