Batman’s mask, Superman’s cape and Catwoman’s suit were among items from a baker’s dozen of Warner Bros movies from 1942 through 2005 that the studio donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington. Props from Tim Burton’s 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory also were among 30 items donated. The Batman mask and cowl were worn by George Clooney in 1997′s Batman & Robin, the Superman cape was from 1883′s Superman III starring Christopher Reeve and the Catwoman suit from Halle Berry’s 2004 Catwoman. WB made the donations in connection with its sponsorship of the museum’s 2013 Classic Film Festival series which will feature the films of Bette Davis in commemoration of Women’s History Month.

Talk about the least appealing pieces from the theoretical lot, as opposed to, say, a cape from the first or second Superman movie, one of Keaton’s or Bale’s cowls, a golden ticket from the Gene Wilder movie, and a Pfeiffer or even Hathaway Catwoman costume.
I know, right? Who did the Smithsonian piss off at Warner Bros to be donated a collection of such junk. Warner Bros. wants the Halle Berry Catwoman film immortalized at the Smithsonian? Really?
I think it’s moreso that WB just wanted that crap out of their offices.
Yeah – they’re like – what are we gonna do with this Clooney Batman mask – get rid of this crap.
So Warners just gave away the crap they couldn’t sell at auction, huh?
Good to know that they want some of the worst, most shameful parts of their history preserved for posterity at the Smithsonian.
I don’t know what’s more pathetic here – that Warners is apparently touting the travesties of “Batman & Robin” and “Catwoman” again, or that the Smithsonian actually accepted this garbage (which will probably never see the light of day again, and just gather dust in their archives – unless they’re planning a “Hollywood Catastrophes” exhibit).
One mans trash is another man’s treasure in some cases. Here it seems one studios trash is now a national museum’s trash.
Since the theme of these donated costumes and props to the Smithsonian seems to be “Warner Brothers worst films and flops” just think of all the great stuff they can donate from this most recent year! Ewan McGregor’s huge pastry shell from “Jack the Giant Slayer”, A deleted scene set inside Grauman’s Chinese Theater from “Gangster Squad” and Jeremy Irons last shred of dignity from “Beautiful Creatures”. Are we sure the Smithsonian simply isn’t having a White Elephant sale?
Am I to understand that we just gave this stuff away for free?! We donated it and got nothing in return from Uncle Sam?! Who the hell is running my studio these days!? Jesus H. Christ this pisses me off! We could have made money selling these old props to the Smithsonian! I am going to have a heart attack if this keeps happening! The Government doesn’t ever deserve anything for free! They steal all our money in outrageous taxes and the stupes running my studio go and do this!?
1883′s Superman? They really love reboots.
