Cheyenne Jackson will play a ruthless ambitious news anchor in Amazon Studios’ pilot The Onion Presents: The News, and now the actor will also be a high-spirited dance instructor in the indie feature 6 Dance Lesson In 6 Weeks. Jackson replaces Sean Hayes in the role of Michael Minetti. Gena Rowlands co-stars as Lily Harrison, a retiree who hires Minetti to give her private dance lessons in her St. Petersburg Beach, FL condo. The unlikely pair soon develop a friendship apart from dance. 6 Dance Lessons is based on the LA-debuting play by Richard Alfieri, which has had a Broadway run and has been seen in 20 countries. Arthur Allan Seidelman directs the film version from a screenplay by Alfieri. Andras Somkuti is producing the film, with Marc Platt and Jerry Offsay executive producing. Jackson will next be seen opposite Michael Douglas and Matt Damon in HBO’s Behind The Candelabra. He is repped by ICM Partners and The Schiff Co.

I mean, that’s great about Cheyenne Jackson and I’m sure he’ll be awesome, but it’s the Lily-part that makes the play. Kind of can’t wait to see Gena Rowlands in this.
More Cheyenne is a good thing.
Wonder why Sean Hayes was fired off this? I can take a wild guess… #Diva
I actually heard Sean left the project #divaornot
Sean Hayes dodged a bullet on this one. It’s a summer-stock type play that bombed on Broadway. I saw it in LA with the legendary Uta Hagan and David Hyde-Pierce.
They were terrific, but the play is weak tea indeed.
Sean was not fired. He left to fulfill a pilot obligation. He was terrific in rehearsals and everyone loved him. That said, Cheyenne’s signing today has delighted all involved. And Richard’s screenplay is funny, touching, outrageous, and heart-breakingly real. I can’t wait to see it!
Sean Hayes is NO diva . I had the pleasure of working with him for 8 years on Will & Grace and he was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. He drove his old Camry even when the network gave the cast members Porsches early on in the show. That’s clearly not a diva.
He’s a hard worker who can single handedly lift the energy of a room. He’s one of the good guys.
Sean Hayes would’ve been great, but Cheyenne Jackson is worthy replacement. Nice to see Gena Rowlands in a great film role again, although I wish they’d cast Angela Lansbury.
I saw this play on Broadway and enjoyed it very much and hope the film turns out great. This is a good vehicle for Gena Rowlands, and I also think Cheyenne Jackson will be wonderful in this part as he is perhaps better suited for it than Hayes (in my opinion). Regarding Sean, Ive never heard an unkind word said and certainly not that that he was a DIVA. Sean is a hard-worker and respected in the industry. People leave or are replaced in projects for a variety of reasons all the time . The comments on this board are simply speculation. I wish the film cast and crew well.
