The farewell to J.R. Ewing and Larry Hagman last night on Dallas pushed the TNT reboot to a season high. The series rose 23% among adults 18-49 and 28% in total viewers from last week’s episode, where the evil oilman was killed off. The star of the original Dallas and the reboot, Hagman died in the Texas city on November 23 while filming the second season of the show. Dallas pulled in 3.559 million total viewers and 1.099 million in the key demo Monday night. The older-leaning network also pulled in 1.377 million in the adults 25-54 demo, up 26% from last week’s show. While not nearly the 6.9 million total viewers who tuned in for the series premiere of the new Dallas last summer, that’s a nice rise from the average 2.6 million viewers who have been watching the series’ second season since its January 28 debut. Hagman appeared in the first seven episodes.

This show desperately needed a ratings boost in order to gain a third season and with last night’s performance, it might have just gotten it.
I do not know what show you are watching. But every epidsode leave me wanting for more… I can not hardly wait until the next epidsode!!!
I tuned in just to what they were going to do. I thought the melancholy opening was nice tribute to Larry Hagman. I was also impressed by Linda Gray’s performance. Not only did she remind audiences why she is the one and only Sue Ellen she reminded everyone that she’s actually a really good actress. I can’t say I’m watch again, but you never know.
I will miss Larry he was always very nice to me. Hopefully they will continue with the “Who Shot JR?” and have the same person do the shooting like back in the day. This time that person succeeds but will they get caught and prosecuted?
I’m trying to figure out what you mean. Are you saying that the same person who shot J.R. in 1980 should be the person who killed him? Just barely possible but incredibly unlikely, as the character was seen dead in a swimming pool many years ago (and I don’t see the show retconning her death at this point). I’d give this scenario maybe a .05% chance of happening–it’s not impossible, but I believe the writers can and will do far better than resurrecting a long-dead character to be the villain.
I don’t know what some people have been watching. But I think every epidsode of Dallas have been drama, awesome. I can not wait until the next week epidsode. Please bring Dallas back for a third season. It is off the the chain goooooood!!!!
I am really enjoying Dallas! It’s good, soapy fun which is exactly what it’s meant to be. Patrick Duffy is terrific.
His brother Gary did it.
Lest anyone think Hagman was an actor of limited range, watch him as the president’s russian interpreter in Fail Safe. He more than holds his own with Fonda in one of his best movies, ever. However, NOBODY got a handle on making a TV villain likeable better than Hagman. At that time in TV, nobody could even come close. His absence is really a mortal blow to this show. Yes, Linda Grey stole the show. Not a surprise.
Brilliant news on the ratings!! Go get em Dallas. It is a first class show, well written, acted and riveting to watch – in fact addictive. Larry as JR is a one off & true legend. Everyone else is doing an amazing job.
I’m 70 years old so I watched the first Dallas and have been watching the new show from the beginning. I knew Larry’s death would be a huge blow to the show and hoped the handling of that would show proper respect for Larry. I was very pleased with Monday’s episode. It was dramatic yet respectful. Wonderful job done by all. I will definitely continue to watch!!
Nice to see Bobby show some “Big Ones” and lay into his wife for keeing him the dark about her daughter. I hope he continues and uses JR’s murder to be the real bad ass of the family. This will only promote John Ross’s to an even darker side.
I watched the original dallas and now the new dallas. The way you brought the two shows together is genius. I totally enjoyed the first show and couldnt wait for the following weeks episodes. The second dallas keeps you wanting more also. The funeral service for the wonderful and truly missed jr ewing was so emotional I felt like I was part of it. I couldnt have loved him more. Mr. hagman and all of the other cast members have given me hours and hours of pleasure and much happiness. Please continue with this new dallas as I hope it runs for as long as the first dallas.jr ewing would be proud.great job to the newest members of dallas 2 and of course welcome back the original cast members. Its been a wonderful run. Thank you for your talent.
I hope the new Dallas runs for a long time but I stopped working one episode shy of JR’s departure. I am content to leave the land of Texas with Jr still alive and well. It’s the reruns for me. I had hoped the role would be recast or recreated through CGI as I really think Larry Hagman would have loved that. The new Dallas is EXCELLENT. May JR rule forever.
