Theater owners don’t want to keep adjusting prices for tickets and concessions based on the movie or time of day, but they also don’t like seeing 88% of their seats left unfilled. That may create an opening for Dealflicks, a Priceline-like service that enables exhibitors to offer discounts tailored to their needs. CEO Sean Wycliffe tells CNBC today that Dealflicks just introduced an iPhone app, and is signing up theaters at the rate of about 2 a day.

Another great idea I didn’t have
“You haven’t reeled in a big kahuna like AMC or Regal. You might need to brush up on your Chinese.” “Well, I’ve eaten Korean BBQ before, so I’m on top of it, guy.”
I’m not sure what he meant by responding to the comment with a mention of Korea. Maybe he was saying, because Korea leads the way in wireless technology, stem cell research, and on an on he was saying he is one up on the Chinese ?
For the general public, in case they did not come across this in their encyclopedia, high school or college–
Korean is not a dialect of Chinese. They are an entirely different race with their own language. They are born with a non-fatal hemangioma (blue birth mark) that fades into adolescence reflecting heritage from Mongolia. Also, their bone structure is unique with their square jaw lines, prominent high cheek bones, ruddier complexions, not pasty. They have middle eastern customs from thousands of years- oldest receiving a double portion, primary birthright, favoriting or “coddling” males in Korean families, sitting on the ground, burying their deceased in rock clefts or mountains, rocking back & forth in meditation, wailing or crying out to G*d with loud voices (they have 600 prayer mountains & you can hear it driving by), their dining tables, their art- laquered boxes, tassels worn on their traditional dresses, on & on… The Chinese do not have this. China tried to wipe out Korea several times from the face of the planet, a period before the Japanese, and then again, most recently during the Korean War, when they allied with Russia against them. Korea borders China, Russia and faces Japan in the east on a peninsula. Strategically, it is every countries’ desire — thank G*d they are the largest Christian country & rely on Jesus Christ for everything because like Israel, who are really small in number, they have incredible leverage & are militarily strong. It’s not the size that counts but who you worship , as the Bible testifies.
So, maybe that was his comeback response with — hey, I’m one up you on that one, I’m learning Korean (not Chinese) !
(not that Standard Mandarin lacks utility- it is a good language of good people, also just entirely different).
Srry for the essay, I am a history buff.
Groupon had been doing this like this already in certain areas but it is a good idea. Ignoring Android users of course even though there are a lot more of us than Apple users.
Couldn’t have said it better. It’s one of those head slapping moments – this just makes sense.
If the company is signing up individual theatres then those theatres must be willing to pay fill rental on the non-discounted price and make it up at the concession stand; not really sure that’s a biz model that works long term. Unless a major movie chain or studio comes in, it could end up more like Groupon than Priceline.
But what about Moviepass users? Big movie buffs in cities (really NY/LA) already exploit that, so maybe this will be good for the casual moviegoer. But I don’t see me switching away from Moviepass.
