Discovery Communications and Hasbro have poached Disney Channel/Disney XD executive Nikki Reed as head of programming for their joint venture, rival children’s cable network The Hub, which is looking to expand into live-action programming. Reed, named SVP Programming & Development for The Hub, replaces Donna Ebbs, who served as the first programming chief for The Hub since its October 2010 launch. Ebbs is now transitioning to a consultant and executive producer role. “Our goal is to utilize my relationships with writers, producers and talent to grow The Hub’s existing slate of programming and enhance it with more live-action series,” said Reed, who reports to The Hub president and CEO Margaret Loesch. Hub’s current lineup is dominated by animated shows, while Reed’s background is in primarily live-action programing. For the past three years, she was VP Original Series, overseeing live-action development for Disney Channel and Disney XD where she developed Jessie, Austin And Ally, Dog With A Blog, Lab Rats, and Crash & Bernstein. Before that, Reed, who has 15 years experience as an executive and producer, was VP Current and Development at Universal Cable Prods. She also spent five years as a development executive for executive producer Barry Kemp’s Bungalow 78 Prods while it was based at Touchstone TV and served as VP Development at Jon Turteltaub’s Junction Entertainment for Disney Studios.

Good for Nikki. No one gets listened to or can get a word in with Adam “The Czar” Bonnet. He’s a freak. Can’t believe this guy works in children’s television.
Love Nikki, she will do great. Art
Nikki is an amazing exec. She’s smart, talented and direct. She has incredible relationships with writers and producers. Congrats to her. She deserves it!
Maybe SHE should have been Pope.
Good for Nikki for escaping The Dark Place with her sanity intact. She’ll be just the shot in the arm the Hub needs to start competing with DC and Nick.
They don’t make ‘em smarter or with better taste than Nikki, not to mention how fantastic of a leader she is. The Hub’s about to get rull.
Great exec, great human being. Known her from the beginning of her career, and she continues to excel. Much needed appointment for HUB.
Dog With A Blog is awesome! Good for her.
Have so much love and respect for Nikki. But the biggest reason I’m excited about this move is I’m hoping her mom will once again add a comment to Deadline like she did after Nikki’s last move!
Nikki got free of the DC black hole. Lucky girl. And HUB lucky to have her.
Nikki is awesome! She’s great to work with, always has good ideas and is one of the coolest, most upbeat people in the biz. Go Nikki!
Wait, I’m not the only one who has suffered under Adam? Then maybe it’s not me, it’s him…
When will the other shoe drop on that guy?
Never. He knows how to manage up! or He made a deal with the Devil, or Lizzie McGuire or Miley Cyrus or someone. EitherOr
Reed may be great (and her mom certainly loves writing comments to that effect on this board), but Ebbs is one of the smartest, shrewdest minds working, not just in the Kids TV arena, but in TV.
With this high caliber of exec talent, ya gotta wonder if the issues that The Hub is facing don’t stem from higher up?
YAY NIKKI!!!!
She is an fantastic exec who brings in great talent. She is exactly what The HUB needs!!!!!!!!
Uh oh. That means my development project with them is dead now, doesn’t it?
Step up for the Hub. An executive who respects writers, and is a good human being to boot, is miles ahead of where they were before. ‘Nuff said–good work, Margaret!
lol
Can someone tell me what’s so freaky about this Adam Bonnet guy?
The Hub is doing an awful job with its scheduling now. Its random all over the and primetime/nights just change about every other month. And then during the day, heavy with reruns and 2 hour blocks of shows. “Movie event” premieres of movies already on DVD.
You think someone could figure this one out over there.
