Focus World, the alternative distribution initiative of Focus Features, is partnering with Screen Media Films on acquiring U.S. rights to The Lifeguard, the Kristen Bell-starrer that debuted at Sundance. The film will hit theaters and digital platforms. Written and directed by Liz W. Garcia, the pic stars Bell as a 30-year-old whose career and love life fall into crisis. She retreats home and regresses back into high school life, hanging with her old pals and reclaiming her old job as a condo complex lifeguard. Mamie Gummer, Martin Starr and Amy Madigan also star. Bell, who stars in Showtime’s House Of Lies, just spearheaded a successful Kickstarter funding campaign that means she’ll also star in a movie version of her series Veronica Mars. CAA repped Lifeguard.

A very solid indie flick. Great team behind it.
…good luck to all.
But the question mark remains the star power of Kristin Bell. She really has never been able to carry a movie on her own. The team may be great, but I submit the verdict is still out.
what verdict? she’s probably not a big bankable star but she can certainly carry an indi film. is that a problem?
I got into this in Sundance and it was so great. Other films had a lot more hype I guess but this made me laugh/cry and cheer. Maybe I was just emotional that day but I loved it!
Caught it at Sundance, amazing performances, great film… very happy for Liz G + crew.
Saw this at Sundance. Great movie, I’d pay to see it again.
Really dug this at Sundance – great to hear it’s found a good home.
I love her. She’s fantastic. Always. Don’t know her. Not related. Just a genuine fan. All the best!
