EXCLUSIVE: These Wayans, they just keep coming. 20th Century Fox has set Happy Endings star Damon Wayans Jr.
and New Girl’s Jake Johnson to star in Let’s Be Cops, a comedy that Luke Greenfield will direct. He wrote the script with writing partner Nick Thomas, based on a pitch he sold to the studio. Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films and Greenfield will produce.
The film is about two best friends looking for a little more out of life. They impersonate cops for kicks, but when they unknowingly mess with a real mobster, the game gets real. Casting is getting underway on the other roles.
Wayans is repped by WME and Mosaic, Johnson is repped by UTA and 3 Arts. Thomas is repped by Paradigm. Greenfield is repped by CAA.

Lemme guess: “Who ‘Dat Ninja?”
(and the brain drain from features to cable tv continues.)
Schmidt & Coach back together. Don’t tell Winston. RIGHT?
Nick and Coach.
Guess that means the Uni project with the same premise is dead.
Just had a mini heart attack! First ABC pulls “Happy Endings” from their schedule and when it returns it’ll be on Fridays (death slot!) with back-to-back new episodes so I figured “Happy Endings” is pretty much done. Then I read this and I’m like guess that means the show is over (sad face) but then I realized this is a movie and NOT a upcoming TV series. hahaha
This is the worst script ever written. Simon must have a put project/deal. Luke Greenfield must have blown Simon to even get this set up. Terrible project.
Pretty nasty stuff, my man.
Ha ha. Luke Greenfield’s a joke, his movies suck. THE GIRL NEXT DOOR was awful. My friend said this loser was hiring an assistant recently – yeah right, who would want to work for this loser. Good luck with that.
Bro you need to get a life.
Still can’t get past the 2nd round of the Page Screenwriting contest, huh?
Do you still have a copy of the script? I’d love to read it. If you don’t mind sending me a copy.
Do you have a copy I can read?
Damon was great in THE OTHER GUYS. Damon is hilarious on HAPPY ENDINGS and if done right this could be amazing.
Agreed
Damon Wayans is the most talented member of his family and its so great to see his son now
take over that mantle. Interesting how Damon
senior refuses to have anything to do with his
talent lite brother Keenen as was evidenced by
him not even showing up for the interview with Oprah last night on TV.
At first I assumed this was Blake McCormick’s Untitled Cops Comedy (on last year’s Black List) with a new title…
What’s interesting, too, is the fact Damon was an original cast member with Jake in “New Girl” but had to give up the part because “Happy Endings,” which had first dibs on his services, got picked up by ABC. So they get to work together again on this project. Nice.
So a director whose credits are: Something Borrowed (tanked), The Animal (tanked) and The Girl Next Door (tanked) is joining forces with the star of a failing sitcom to make a far-fetched and formulaic comedy?
In Hollywood, that’s called a recipe for success!
the animal didn’t win any academy awards, but it made money back then… got Luke his next gig.
This movie will absolutely tank. The buzz about the script is absolutely horrific.
I thougt the script was great. So to all those haters out there go F yourself.
You’re obviously so angry because you wrote it. Be proud of yourself, you’re getting a project made, and making some incredible money. You’re living the dream. The only catch? You do have to live with people knowing that the work you do is terrible. You’re not a talented person, but you have opportunities and you are well-compensated. That should be plenty to deal with the angst of not being respected.
Some day, someone should make a comedy about regular people who get mixed up with dangerous gangsters. Maybe there could be a case of mistaken identity involved? And then they should save the day, against all odds. Why has no one ever thought of this before?
YOU are probably an extremely successful producer, or about to be. Keep on being awesome friend!!!
I did not write this movie nor do I know anyone involved. I just happened to get the script recently because it was be discusssed as a potentially being greenlit. It was good. Deal with it.
This is another stupid comedy just like The Sitter. I thought FOX was finished making these kind of bad B-movies. They are always terrible. There is no reason to make this kind of crap. Yes they might turn a small profit but the time and money and energy that goes into them is just not worth it. Can’t we aspire to make better movies? FOX used to be a classy studio. Now it’s the lowest common denominator studio. Stupid movies for stupid moviegoers.
I’m a HUGE fan of Jake Johnson. If you watch New Girl, you’d know he’s an incredibly talented actor. He’s phenomenal at comedy. He’s superb. Very gifted actor.
So I’ll go see the movie JUST for Jake. I’m sure whatever kind of script it is, he’ll make it enjoyable and fun.
Damon was actually also in the New Girl pilot. And he’s hilarious. I think the combination of Jake/Damon will work beautifully! They were already awesome co-stars! And they have the “friendship” type of a chemistry!
Hilarious script. People need to stop hating.
“A joke,” “jc,” “joe,” and “whatawaste,” from your comments, I can only assume you waste far too much of your life envying others. Instead of fighting with you or telling you you’re wrong, I’m going to attempt to bring some positivity into your life.
“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow’s blessings instead of your own.” People who live their lives in gratitude and positivity don’t have time to envy others. Which in turn, means they receive far more of what they want in life and watch their dreams turn into realities and their sorrows become triumphs. People who live in gratitude are inspired by others success. People who live in gratitude are HAPPY and filled with LOVE.
I feel very sorry for you all. Your nasty comments are so obviously not about Luke, but about yourselves. Turn that energy inward and maybe you can find the success Luke has. Were you directing a studio film when you were 28-years-old? Did you get a movie green-lit this year? Have you ever put yourself out there and fully followed your dreams?
This world would be a better place if you turned your negative energy inward and focused on making yourself a better person, a more focused person, a person following their dharma as much as Luke is.
Damon Wayans is Keenen’s younger brother, not the other way around
