Here’s the official trailer for Disney’s Planes, the studio’s sort-of Cars spinoff that last month replaced Jon Cryer with Dane Cook as the voice of the main character, Dusty — a single-engine crop-duster with sky-high ambitions with just one problem: he’s afraid of heights. Disney slotted the former direct-to-video title to open August 9th in 3D:

Dane Cook + a Disneyfied spinoff of a Pixar 2nd-tier movie = ugh.
Cars is the only bad movie Pixar has released. Rather than moving on, they keep dumping more and more of it on us. Now we have to go in the air with this Planes garbage. Would someone at Disney please have an honest conversation with John Lasseter and tell him it is time to let it go? We don’t want this garbage anymore! Go back to original ideas.
Wait up, Missing Link! Lassiter’s still got to work his way through Trains and Boats next.
Well, “Cars Land” has revitalized Disney Parks and the merchandise is through the roof still. Cars 2 sucked, but still wasn’t as bad as Ratatouille. That film was garbage.
90 minute toy commercial.
Cars brought in BILLIONS of dollars in merchandise sales and this will undoubtedly do the same.
Missing Link, why don’t you try watching films for grown ups and leave the kids stuff to kids? My kids love cars, even Cars 2, which I thought was trash. They love all the spy stuff and don’t care about the wafer thin, convoluted plot.
Oh no, more of this stuff.
Tough spot for Pixar (well, not really, I’m sure just about everybody wouldn’t mind being in their place). They’ve got a massive money pot in “Cars,” so they don’t just want to let it go (not to mention it’s Lasseter’s baby) but at the same time “Cars” doesn’t really live up to the Pixar brand. Too many movies like that and Pixar’s unique place in the hearts and minds of the public goes away, which means less money for them in the long run.
Moving “Planes” over to the Disney label was a smart idea.
Is anyone uneasy that military weapons are being personified here under the Disney banner?
Pass.
Wow — this animation looks impressive! I hear it was going to be a DVD but it looked so good that the Disney machine decided to release it theatrically. It hails from PRANA STUDIOS — the same studio who do the Tinkerbell movies that look so damn good. Smart move by the Mouse House. I bet this makes a billion bucks too.
