Great Photoshopping of the previous posters into one image. And by great I mean terrible.
That is one of the most awful and generic posters I’ve ever seen and it’s infuriating. The sleek and awesome design of Iron Man’s suit (especially this film’s mark) would lend itself brilliantly to a more subtle and minimalistic poster. And it could still be more epic than this mess.
Call me old-fashioned, but I like it when a film poster is an object of beauty unto itself — or at least something more elegant and eye-pleasing than this Photoshopped mess. Maybe I’m being harsh. It’s just that 99% of film posters are so boring these days. As a veteran of Hollywood marketing, I understand why this doesn’t happen. I also know that, with a little leadership and a willing corporate culture, Hollywood’s marketing departments wouldn’t so often forget to put a little effort into something as simple and classic as a movie poster. When you factor in the world of Facebook, Pinterest, and Tumblr — places where fans curate and share their favorite visual objects — the power of the timeless poster becomes infinite when it’s a jpeg of awesomeness to be posted and re-posted long after the movie has left the theaters. When I look at this particular image, I have the appropriate Pavlovian “I want to see Iron Man 3″ response, but I’m not awed/impressed/inspired enough by the poster to upload it to Tumblr. I say this as a fan, not just a wanna-be Don Draper.
beautiful post, Reggie. Was wondering if you’ve come across recent/new movies with inspired posters that capture the artful joy of which you speak? thanks…. and yes, this Iron Man III poster, as others have noted, is underwhelming.
Bobby C.,
Back off.

Yawn. I hope Iron Man 3 is better than the awful Iron Man 2. If this one is a stiff too, then it won’t surprise me to see a new Iron Man lead. Robert Downey Jr. must see the end of the tunnel now.
Never had a problem with Iron Man 2.
Want a list of bad comic book movies? Okay Ghost Rider 1 and 2 Schumacher’s Batman, Shaq’s Steel, MacFarlane’s Spawn, Pitof’s Catwoman, Ratner’s X-Men.
Honest to God, such spoiled brats out there.
FIND ANOTHER MOVIE TO BE “SEEN AT” ON OPENING WEEKEND. JERKOFF.
And the double standard when it comes to comedy is pathetic.
Seriously, The Hangover was only funny if you were stoned out of your mind. The Other Guys was $100 million budget excrement.
Horrible Bosses = horribly unfunny. (Oh Jammie Foxx’s character is named Motherfucker Jones! Am I supposed to laugh now?)
And The grosses for Identity Thief prove there’s too much disposable income out there. Not a single laugh in the trailer.
This surely must be a fake poster. It’s awful. Completely UNINSPIRED
Holy shit, they have a POSTER?!!
This must mean a movie is in the works. Can anyone verify?
Whoever did this poster must have a hate on Goop! She looks stupid in that one. I am sure Marvel can do better than this!
i don’t think Gwyneth is even photoshopped. She almost looks illustrated.
In the credits at the top it should read “Gwyneth Paltrow”
I think that we can all agree the movie will be better than the poster
Love the uncluttered, minimalist approach.
I think I’ll skip this one. Can’t stand Goop.
Good word for this: “Goop”.
All these super-hero/sci-fi posters and trailers are yawners, TBH. Only Pacific Rim looks hot.
Bring in Drew Struzan!!
Apple box for Robert anyone?
QUICK, IRON MAN & WAR MACHINE!! PUT YOUR HELMETS ON!! THE MANDARIN’S ABOUT TO ATTACK!!

This looks like a fake, over the top movie poster you find in a movie…
Only it’s not.
Good movie posters…I just got the latest Neon Trees CD (meh, musically), but the insert? Every song has it’s own movie poster! And they are pretty good, too.
