Saturday Night Live alumna Jenny Slate has been cast as a lead opposite June Diane Raphael in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot Pulling, from ABC Studios and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. The project, written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky and directed by Jason Moore, revolves around three dysfunctional women in their 30s living their lives the way they want, even if society tells them they should have it all figured out by this point. Slate, repped by 3 Arts, WME and Josh Sander, plays one of them, Karen, who may be a prim and proper professional during working hours, but once she’s off the clock, look out. Raphael plays the leader of the trio, Donna, while the third role, Louise, opened up after Mandy Moore exited yesterday.
Steve Talley (Pretty Little Liars) has been cast in ABC’s comedy pilot Keep Calm And Karey On, from writer/executive producer Andrea Abbate, 20th TV and 21 Laps/Adelstein. The project centers on Karey (Kelly Preston), the clean-nosed black sheep in a family of petty thieves, drug addicts, and narcissists. When her brother is sent to prison, she decides to raise his kids along with her adopted black son and give them the normal lives they deserve. Talley, repped by Domain, Framework and attorney Lev Ginsburg, plays Karey’s younger brother Jeff — part leech, part con-man, he has no job and now lives with Karey and sleeps on her sofa.
E.J. Bonilla has joined Sharon Horgan’s ABC single-camera comedy pilot Bad Management. Written by Horgan and Holly Walsh and executive produced by Aaron Kaplan, Bad Management centers on a slightly self-centered female boss (Horgan) at a high-end luxury goods department store who finds her ways challenged when the boss’ son, Tobias Jr. (David Spade), comes to town and makes youth and sex the new company focus. APA-repped Bonilla will play Ramon, a vain guy working at the store who had implants on his butt cheeks.
