2ND UPDATE, WEDNESDAY 1 PM: UTA has confirmed that it has signed Kelsey Grammer and will rep the actor for film and television as well as his Grammnet production company.
UPDATE, TUESDAY 7 PM: I’ve learned that Kelsey Grammer has indeed signed with UTA, returning to the agency that once represented him.
EXCLUSIVE MONDAY 6 PM: Kelsey Grammer has left WME where he had been for the past two and a half years. The Emmy-winning actor has not landed anywhere officially yet after meeting with a couple of agencies, but we hear he plans to sign with UTA. (The agency had no comment). Grammer recently starred in and executive produced Starz’s drama Boss, which earned him a Golden Globe. He also is in discussion with Lionsgate on a 10-90 deal for a buddy comedy starring him and Martin Lawrence, who is at UTA. Before signing with WME in 2010, Grammer was at CAA. He was previously repped by UTA for a long time.

Not Paradigm? Surprising…
What about Resolution?
exactly
Those talent wranglers of his keep moving him. The Russian woman.
You refer to Stella? Kelsey clearly has lost it if she is shepherding his career.
No ‘Frasier has left the building’ jokes?
What about our meeting?!?
Imposter.
wait WME and UTA split the package on the 10-90 deal. Then WME’s loses a big pain in the ass and his surrounding team so UTA can work on getting him a film that’s impossible.
Who won this one.
one of the Best Actors in the business…wherever he goes will be lucky to have him!
This is sick. Now they can put him in Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks movies, because that’s the extent of their packaging efforts. Funny how when Jason Batemen left, everyone from UTA ragged on him on this board. Well, he’s doing pretty well now, even as the 300th option at CAA.
He called us to set up a meeting and we refused.
I “heart” APA employee
Double imposter.
Got any proof?
Kelsey should switch agencies every other month it’s good to keep your reps on their toes and always keep them insecure about how long you will stay with them. Keep riding the merry-go-round Kelsey you are doing the right thing and the smart thing!
thats actually a really, really shitty strategy
I pray sarcasm, but seems far too sincere.
He was at WME for almost 3 years. That’s definitely long enough to know if you are getting what you need. I respect his decision to make a change. Too many artists stay at their agency for too long when the agents are doing nothing to build their careers Happy for Mr. Grammer.
He’s a really talented actor and any agency would be lucky to represent him. There’s another major series or two in this man and some serious film work. He’s got the chops.
As for UTA they need to get it together with their film department or be prepared to lose more clients to CAA and WME. They need to service their writing and directing clients rather than search for new ones.
I have been a client of UTA’s for five plus years and get steady work as a screenwriter on studio projects big and small. I have several produced features, and television projects in various stages of development. I am not a comedy writer.
People have told me in the past to switch to CAA or WME, but no one has laid it out for me why exactly this would benefit me. I do want to direct, and have told this to my agents. They’ve been encouraging in the abstract, but not proactive in helping me lay groundwork for this.
Can someone here sell me on switching? I’m not sure I would, but I would like to hear a good case for it.
UTA blew it for me. I don’t want to get into specifics for fear of indentifying myself, but they blew it. The people I deal with are ALL great as people, but they flat out blew it for me. I know several other writers and directors who feel the same way. If they’re doing it for you, I would stay, but for a lot of us, it’s been a disappointment to say the least.
Agents at ALL agencies fail sometimes. It happens. Not sure what your point is other than to imply that CAA and WME have not blown it for many of their clients as well. Is that what you are actually suggesting or do you even have a meaningful, productive point? Perhaps WME blew it for Kelsey and that’s why he is leaving now? Possibly? Anyway, best of luck to you. Swallow the bitterness – it might help your writing too.
Anon’s post sounds honest. YOURS sounds bitter.
They blew it for me, too. Big time. I finally quit trying to figure out what the “problem” was and left and it was a great move for me.
I am extremely concerned about Kelsey’s insecurity. This constant changing of agents is symptomatic of a deep-rooted paranoia psychosis stemming from his failure to find inner peace and tranquility in his personal life. He should be happy now he’s with a wonderful woman he divorced his previous wife that shrew all she cared about was being rich and famous the harpy and he has a beautiful new baby.
There must be something else that’s bothering him but it would require extensive analysis at my normal price sorry no discounts to fully diagnose Kelsey. I can fit him in today after lunch for 30 minutes to do a preliminary diagnosis.
You can thank his managers (including “The Russian” mentioned in a previous post) for the deep-seated paranoia…
To APA employee, you are funnier than the 3 comedy writers your whole agency reps. Good one.
One of them is a team so that doesn’t count.
Oh dear. I am extremely concerned about Kelsey.
Therefore the problem is hidden from view. It’s not romantic nor is it professional he’s certainly very successful although not as successful as he was when he was Frasier.
There must be something else that’s bothering him but it would require extensive analysis at my normal price sorry no discounts to fully diagnose Kelsey.
I can fit him in today after lunch for 30 minutes to do a preliminary diagnosis. It won’t be pretty but it’s most essential. I’ll have to see him at least twice a week for 90 minutes for the next 6 months.
And dont forget The Artists Agency….thats where he was when he first played Frasier…
I was an an agent at The Artists Agency when he was there….
They sued him and got all their money owed.
He should go with the agency that sets him up in a sitcom where Frasier has to deal with unemployed son Freddie & his girlfriend moving in with him. Boom. 6 seasons.
Kelsey was at WME for 2 and a half years, and before that CAA for 6 years. That’s not exactly Agency hopping. Clearly these posts were written by Kelsey’s bitter fired WME agents who couldn’t get the job done.
It’s true we gave Kelsey the best years of our lives and we worked our butts off for him and this is the thanks we get. Shame on him for abandoning us for those UTA clowns.
Amazing what kind of people post their stuff on this site. Almost every news piece is filled with 90% insult & bad mouthing by either jealous agents or doom & gloom folks. Don’t you all realize that the time we are given – repeat – that we are given – only lasts a bit. Rather than spend time badmouthing and insulting other human beings, spend it on being productive for yourself. Go to any news piece this site has done on Resolution – and look at all the comments. Awful.
