AMC‘s new scripted drama Low Winter Sun premieres this summer with 10 one-hour episodes and is based on a two-part miniseries that aired in the UK in 2006. The Endemol/AMC Studios production stars Mark Strong and Lennie James and begins with the murder of a Detroit cop by a fellow detective. Unlike the network’s hit The Walking Dead, the guy doesn’t come back to life, and the seemingly perfect crime activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, pulling him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Cold Case) is the writer/executive producer/showrunner. Check it out:

Lotta scenery chewing going on in that clip. Hope the whole show isn’t acted that way.
What you’re talking about isn’t scenery chewing, it’s two top notch actors dominating the material they’ve been given. Happy to see these guys front and center finally.
This looks incredible. Emmy noms for Mark Strong and/or Lennie James? Calling it now.
Emmys are going to be interesting this year, with so many new players: LWS, The Americans, House of Cards (which will probably sweep…)
I don’t think House of Cards is eligible for an Emmy since it didn’t air on TV. Isn’t it technically a web series?
According to the producers of House Of Cards, they checked with the Academy and they ARE eligible for the Emmys, even though like you I would think the show being made for the web rather than TV should be a problem. However, Low Winter Sun is NOT going to be eligible for this year’s Emmys, unless it starts before the end of May, the end of the eligibility period for the 2013 Emmys.
this looks awesome! and is that david costabile in there?! that dude is everywhere. loved him on suits and breaking bad. looks like an awesome cast
Aaand down the rabbit hole of their life goes another AMC main character…..Walter White, Don Draper, Will Travers, Sarah Lindin. Amazing that they keep doing the same thing with their main characters over and over.
That’s AMC’s brand. A viewer signs on to one of their dramas to follow the lead character through some kind of Hell. If you want “Blue Skies,” watch the USA cable channel.
Overwrought, over-arty, over-acted, and The Shield already did this. Pass.
This is a remake of a British drama, also starring Mark Strong, from 2006.
What you’re saying is, because The Shield (which ended in 2008) already covered this world, no one ever should again? Interesting viewpoint. Sadly for you, not how Hollywood works.
how is this overacted? These are underrated but phenomenal actors. I can’t wait to see this show.
It looks super cool. I can’t wait to watch the episodes. The British show is awesome, I’m sure the American version won’t disappoint.
Are you saying that Breaking Bad won’t be eligible? It starts after May!
