After the huge success of Disney and Marvel Studios‘ The Avengers, the continuation of the Marvel movie universe has been a fait accompli. In addition to Iron Man 3 and the sequels to Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, already planned prior to The Avengers, several new films exploiting lesser known Marvel Characters, most notably Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant Man have been greenlit. Left untapped is a third attempt to make a successful Incredible Hulk movie, particularly noticeable after Mark Ruffalo‘s performance as Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Avengers emerged as that film’s most celebrated success. There’s been a wave of speculation and rumor that a Ruffalo-starring Hulk film is under consideration, but that conversation can be put to rest – for now – as Ruffalo took to Twitter to pour cold water on the prospect. “A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk. The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone.” In a follow up to that tweet, he did make it clear that the door isn’t closed, adding “I am not giving up on another stand alone HULK. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.” Regardless, it would seem, for now, that a new Hulk film is not in the cards.
Previous attempts to bring The Hulk to the big screen include Ang Lee’s Eric Bana-starring The Hulk in 2003, and 2008′s The Incredible Hulk starring Ed Norton. Both films met with mixed reception.

I think I speak for the entire fan community when I say, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”
I mean, they finallyfinallyfinally nailed the characterization of Banner and Hulk with Ruffalo. After dreading a new Hulk movie after the first two false starts, who hasn’t been looking forward to at least the possibility of a Ruffalo stand-alone adventure?
If you’re reading Mark Waid’s Indestructible Hulk you can see how that would work in a stand alone Hulk movie. Waid’s story is more about Bruce Banner managing the Hulk like someone who manages to live with diabetes. It’s also about Bruce Banner wanting his legacy to be BANNER HELPS not HULK SMASHES.
But yet there will have to be one down the line from what I’ve been reading about the Hulk supposedly being the central focus of the third phase of films in which some of the source material will be adapted from the Planet Hulk storyline.

That’s from Latino Review, and hasn’t been proven or disproven (and likely won’t be for another year or two).
@babyjesus…. what you said. I’m in. But I’ll even see another bad Hulk movie. The first two were bad, but there were still a few scenes I loved that kept the experience from being complete misery.
I thought Ruffalo was a dull Hulk. Norton was better – and also a better looking Hulk.
While I feel that the Hulk looked better (or maybe I should say cooler) in the Incredible Hulk than the Hulk in the Avengers, I thought Ruffalo was, by far better, than Eric Bana or Edward Norton (and I’m a big Norton fan). Ruffalo shifted well between the dorkiness of Bruce Banner and powerful rage of the Hulk that sometimes peaked through.
And grow up with the fucking movie thing that Carrie Rickey started.
Screw a third hulk movie, Hollywood is obsessed with rebooting and that’s all that would do is screw up Hulk. Hulk doesn’t need an origin story, he needs a compelling antagonist.
Personally I’d prefer an AMC/Showtime Hulk series. 6-12 1 hour episodes not about the Hulks origin but about his struggles with learning to stop himself transforming and the difficulty of knowing the kind of destruction that he has caused. Eventually leading to him having some control and being able to stop himself from harming those around him.
Or possibly an adaption of the re-emergence of the original gray Hulk from Peter David’s run during the 80′s. The hulk has always been far more interesting when his more intelligent personas are active.
I still think the Hulk deserves a great movie but I agree they don’t need to retell his origin. I would love to see another Hulk series. However, Hollywood (or maybe the actors) need to realize that they cannot recreate the Incredible Hulk series from the 70′s/80′s. That just came out at the right time. They should find a way to actually make the series more about the Hulk and his struggles as opposite to focusing on Bruce Banner’s struggles and just making the Hulk a raging beast.
BRING BACK BANA!
Look, the Hulk’s just NOT THAT INTERESTING. The only reason he finally worked in the Avengers was because he was part of a TEAM. I personally liked Edward Norton’s Banner better than Ruffalo’s by the way. And they’re trying a new Hulk TV series, which will be awful. Let it go, fanboys. Three strikes, you’re out. There are way more interesting characters to develop, IMO. I’m still waiting for that kick-ass Wonder Woman movie, myself.
The Hulk is the second most popular character in Marvel and the Hulk and Bruce Banner have many different layers. The Hulk hasn’t been treated with the same dedication as other marvel characters. The Avengers proved that if you put forth the effort and money the Hulk actually has the greatest amount of star appeal on the team. There is nothing wrong with people wanting to see their favorite super hero treated with respect on the big screen.
Also, you mentioned that you’re waiting for a Wonder Woman movie. I don’t know what that has to do with the Hulk or Marvel, but answer this, how do you feel about the Justice League movie that has been green-lit with plans for Wonder Woman to be replaced by the Green Lantern? A Justice League movie without Wonder Woman????
I believed that Mark Ruffalo not get his own movie because he only a guest in the Avengers 2,3,4. Means he’s have a picture deal means he will only do up to five films and after that They might have a Incredible Hulk 2 with Edward Norton.
I’ve heard that Mark Ruffalo is running into some of the same issues as Edward Norton. He wanted the third movie to focus more on Bruce than the Hulk. I haven’t been able to confirm that but I do know that why Edward Norton was replaced.
