We’ve learned that Melissa McCarthy will host Saturday Night Live on April 6. This will be McCarthy’s second time hosting SNL in two years and she received rave reviews the first time around in October 2011. One of the highlights of that appearance was a reunion with her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig in The Lawrence Welk Show cold opening. McCarthy currently stars in the box office hit Identity Thief with Jason Bateman.

Great news! Last time was a hoot.
I love Melissa but again? SNL has really been lousy this season in bringing in first-time hosts. It’s deja vu every episode.
Wanna bet she plays an inebriated, over-sexed, plus-size loudmouth in the first half-hour? Typecasting, Melissa – watch for it!
You are right. Melissa McCarthy is going to portray the same sloppy, messy, and fatty stereotype. Melissa was beyond obnoxious in Bridesmaids. Do she and her handlers realize , that this is limiting her career? I guess they are trying to find different ways to destroy her career. I don’t agree with Rex Reed’s harshness of McCarthy, but he did tell the truth about the roles she portrays.
I am violently opposed to her hosting. I will be there in the audience to heckle her in person. I will post my review of her performance on Twitter as soon as the show ends. Nobody likes Melissa she’s a fat obnoxious hippo. Everybody loves me because I am so handsome and witty and talented. I hope they don’t make fun of me in any sketches if they do I will simply die from the humiliation and embarrassment. Please don’t make fun of me I’m just doing my job.
The last time, McCarthy set a record for the largest number of hilarious skits by a host in a single episode of SNL– topping even Alec Baldwin. Should be great.
Awesome news! She was by far the best host SNL had last season. If she is half as funny as she was last time it will be the best of this season as well. I hope K.Wiggles makes a cameo.
I hope her husband Ben Falcone makes an appearance!
Identity Thief was terrible. How?
Smart move SNL.
Since Bridesmaids and Identity Thief are Universal properties and since NBC is part of Universal (NBCU), it is understandable how this gig may have been orchestrated. It might even be a contractual obligation as part of her agreement with Universal that she hosts SNL a certain number of times.
But she needs to develop a more diverse repertoire other than the loud, obnoxious, large jerk. (Even Belushi and Farley tried to play against type.) We get it Melissa – girls can be as crude as guys. Now show us something more.
“Show us something more?”
She does it every week in her sitcom and she did it in her first TV hit, Gilmore Girls, for seven seasons.
She’s found a type of character that people loves and she’s taking advantage of that in SOME of her projects. What’s wrong with that?
Melissa gave comedy acting lessons to future actors during her last SNL appearance.
Get real folks: people love her and she’s playing it perfectly.
She’s a female Belushi/Farley/LarryTheCableGuy.
None of these negative comments would be appearing if she were just a crude dude.
Her star power made IT (a minor film) into box office gold.
This is her time to shine. Plenty of more broad comedy to be mined.
Why must she “change” to win UR love?
Maybe she’s never had any desire to be Meryl Streep.
