EXCLUSIVE: National Geographic Channel has greenlighted a pilot for In The Name Of Science, a science-based show from Nerdist Industries, Chris Hardwick and Peter Levin’s production company for multi-platform genre and pop culture content, which is owned by Legendary Entertainment. Co-produced by Lighthearted Entertainment, In The Name Of Science is hosted by Nerdist Industries staple Jonah Ray. In it, famous experiments of the past are redone to see whether they stand the test of time. “In The Name Of Science is exactly the type of imaginative and smart programming we are looking for,” said National Geographic Channel President Howard T. Owens, adding that “a fresh look at everyday science and how it affects our contemporary lives” is something the network had been looking to explore for some time. Added Nerdist Industries CEO Levin, “’Fun science’ is a Nerdist Industries through line.” Levin and Nerdist Founder & Chief Creative Officer Chris Hardwick will executive produce the pilot with Lighthearted Entertainment’s Howard Schultz & Rob LaPlante. Nerdist has been expanding its TV profile, recently getting a series order from BBC America for comedy-variety talk show The Nerdist and signing a deal with AMC.

Wow, this sounds AWESOME! Nerdist does the coolest shows ever. Does anyone know when it will premiere?
Love me some Jonah Ray…glad Nerdist is working in the core podcast team into its expansion. yay team.
More science! Less Hollywood “nerds” please.
I love Nat Geo so much. Thank you for teaming up with Nerdist to make TV awesomeness.
Natgeo is doing some very cool things. This makes a lot of sense. Nerdist is rockin’ Talking Dead is awesome as an hour. Hardwick is the man
Nerdist gets better and better. Keep spread the Nerd love!!!
Congrats Jonah!
Gravity is not going to stand the test of time? duh.
I’m going to go ahead and guess – Yes, science stands the test of time.
I think the goal is not to retest things that are obviously true, but rather experiments that may have been fudged or incorrectly run (Newton himself was rather well known for being a bit loose with his results). At least, I hope so.
Good for Hardwick. Nice to see he’s leaving that steaming pile that was Comcast’s G4 well in his dust.
Until Nat Geo tries to differentiate itself from the pack and not follow and copy the leaders, it’ll always be behind. This is just Mythbusters Redux. There’s a reason Family Guns, Wicked Tuna, Rocket City Rednecks and all the others went to bust while Brain Games and Amish: Out of Order took off. Put on some smart quiz shows.
Way to go, Jonah! I am stoked for this!
So very proud of you cousin!!!!! Love that ur doing what matters most to you!!!! On to amazings things!!!!
Neil deGrase Tyson, Bill Nye and now this…Nerdist IS fun science!
