666 Park Avenue alum Robert Buckley has exited NBC’s comedy pilot Holding Patterns after the table read. The project, from writer Justin Spitzer, Peter Traugott’s TBD Prods and Universal TV, is an ensemble multi-camera comedy about a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash. Buckley was to play one of them, Chad, Griffin’s (Humphrey Ker) and Leah’s (Chyler Leigh) arrogant, misogynistic friend, now a successful chick-lit author who returns home for the wedding. I hear among the reasons for Buckley’s departure was the fact that when the cast got together for the table read, it became apparent that Buckley looks a lot like Ker, while the producers have been looking for a more dramatic differentiation between the two characters. Buckley is the latest actor to leave a pilot this season as the networks rush to cast some 100 pilots within six weeks.

Humphrey Ker is a nerdy british comedian while Robert Buckley is an all American walking six pack – on what planet do these two look alike??
I agree. Robert Buckley is a modern-day Adonis. Can’t imagine him being confused with anyone, unless he was starring alongside Chris Evans.
On planet NBC which is clearly Mars to everyone else’s Venus.
Translation, Robert Buckley was not good enough.
Agreed. Robert Buckley is a looker, but acting is not his forte.
Lazy and pedestrian assumption. You were not there and have no clue what you’re talking about. His comedic delivery was too close to Ker’s and the dynamic was off. Patton Oswald, Christina Ricci, among others, have all exited for one reason or another. Now, go back to being insignificant.
Were you there? otherwise how do you know that their comedic delivery was too similar and the dynamic was off? You attack the other poster for assuming what the problem was, but you just did the same thing.
Not surprising, who would cast him in a comedy????
So was everyone blindfolded when they were casting this project? That has got to be the stupidest reason I’ve ever heard in my life.
Yes, recasting happens but NBC is taking it to a whole nother level. The executives all have knee jerk reactions after a slow or rough table read and the easiest thing to do is say “Lets fire an actor!”. How about they fire an executive after a bad table read? In fact, NBC, fire ALL the comedy executives. It cant get any worse. You are in FIFTH place – just hire creative talented showrunners and let them do their passion projects – worse that can happen? They fail (like everything else they touch) or a true breakout hit happens because a singular comedic voice comes through! Try it! Double dog dare!
We are hearing about too many actors of every level being released from their series regular roles on pilots after table reads this season. Does this not signal perhaps yet again, a dire need in re-evaluating and restructuring how network pilot season is done? Pilot mania is inherent in the process-but the mad dash insanity and its effect on actors is absurd. Time is at hand for casting directors, reps, studios and networks to come together and re-think the casting process for pilot season. The “creative” process has for the most part become a frenetic, disconnected drill. Time to shake it up.
I guess all white guys look the same.
Ker is both good looking and funny, but he cannot carry a show on his own, he lacks the personality. He would do better as a supporting actor.
