Interior designer Nate Berkus, whose daytime syndicated talk show ran on the NBC O&Os for two seasons, is coming back to the NBC stations across the country — this time with a primetime network program. NBC has given a 10-episode order to Renovation Nation, a home makeover competition series hosted and executive produced by Oprah Winfrey protege Berkus, who will also serve as judge and advocate, mentoring the contestants week to week. On the series, two teams tackle two new homes each week. In every episode, Berkus will present contestants with extensive design and build challenges. The contestants will be evaluated by Berkus and his team of experts to determine which team did the best. The winning team will be safe from elimination and the losing team will have to chose who to send home. Viewers will be able to tour the homes virtually and purchase specific items that are featured in that episode. In addition, weekly prizes will be given away to viewers, ranging from luxury household items to home makeovers and cold hard cash. The series will conclude in a live finale, where viewers will vote to determine the winner and two dream homes will be given away to two lucky viewers. “We believe we are in a time where Americans want to feel empowered and inspired to make changes to their homes; changes that will not only increase their value and quality of life but at the same time — not break the bank,” NBC president of alternative Paul Telegly said.

This will not take NBC out of last place…
Any chance NBC could greenlight a Network Makeover Series…
Would love to this bunch of monkeys scratch and claw to right this sinking ship.
Aint dat the truth…once youre in, youre in with these people it seems…even at McDonalds, if you are terminated, you can not walk down the street to another McDonalds and get a job yet these folks can literally have show after show cancelled and get paid and live kushy lives up until their death never having actually succeeded at anything significant in the entertainment business.
Speak for yourselves, monkeys. I got my job back at the McDonalds down the street.
Blargh. Another competition series.
Berkus deserves better.
Winfrey can do better.
NBC apparently can’t do better.
Nate Berkus! Everything his touches turns to dirt!! Paul Tedegly should fire himself……

Fresh idea! Fresh face! Genius!
Can someone please come up with an interesting, creative, unique and NEW reality show concept. Im already falling asleep …Its like an HGTV show slipped into NBC schedule.
Will this show be produced by Extreme Makeover Home Edition “guru” Tom Forman? And if so, will he pocket money that was intended for cancer victims and other victims of unfortunate circumstances like he did on EMHE? Stand up guy, that Tom Forman.
Dude, you’re a loon. I worked on that show. Forman created it and ran it for a few years and then moved onto something else. Nobody stole anything, especially a guy who quit after season 3. Conspiracy much?
This isn’t supposed to “right NBC’s ship”. It’s got a 10 episode order. More likely than not, this will air during the summer etc. So stop kicking the network execs for a move that was never meant to be game changing
How is this not redundant of EVERYTHING on HGTV? How has NBC forgotten viewers did NOT tune into Nate’s own show thus showing he’s not a ratings draw? What the f@ck is Oprah thinking with yet another bad tv show idea?
If the show is smaller in scope than Extreme Home Makeover it offers absolutely no buzz.
Fashion Star wasn’t enough of a lesson for NBC i guess.
I hope this is summer and not in-season.
NBC,JUST KEEPS GOING DOWN ON THE CHARTS.
Summer replacement series, get over it.
And truly NBC thinks bringing a guy in who just had his show canceled on the same concept will revitalize ratings at that struggling network? NBC really needs to start bringing in better people with better ideas than this crap reality stuff as it’ll only sink them closer to 6th place in the ratings. Whether it’s summer or in-season, these shows mostly don’t work in the long run.
This has so much potential! With Nate Berkus and a network budget I bet we’ll get some killer before & afters…Can’t wait to watch.
I read Deadline every day and I realized it’s time I asked a direct question. Who are you f**king trolls? Like, did you get fired from NBC? What pleasure does it give you to talk shit at NBC? The network that gave us Cheers, Cosby, Seinfeld, Carson, Leno, Letterman, Friends etc? You think NBC is going to be down for long? Think again, Unemployed Hack. They’re on the upswing and just because you’re not, don’t waste a precious second of my busy life with your worthless bullsh*t trolling. Leave the business to the rest of us, losers!
Another reality show? OMG Mr. Berkus. You better be careful with the ratings! DUN DUN DUN.
Uh,based on recent history•••Nbc is going to be down for a long time•••reeeaaaallllyyyy long time…years in fact…
