Following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. state legislators in New York rushed the nation’s toughest gun control measure into law. Now the state is looking to tweak the law with an exemption that will allow movie and TV producers to film gun battles on New York City streets, the AP reports. New York and other states have courted film and TV producers with tax incentives to create local production jobs and increased revenues in the community. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who wants to expand the film and TV tax credit, says productions might use fake guns that wouldn’t be subject to the new law, but the industry wants “certainty” and Cuomo and other officials don’t want to jeopardize the production business. The revised law would allow filmmakers to use real weapons without real ammunition. Cuomo described the changes as “technical corrections”. The so-called Hollywood exemption is just one of several possible revisions, one of which would allow police officers more leeway with their weapons. Separately, Fox News reported that a New York state judge agreed Friday to consider whether the tough new gun restrictions were rushed into law in violation of the state Constitution which usually requires a three-day review before lawmakers vote on legislation.

Do as we say-not as we do. So basically,we want to protect our children by passing this tough law, but,at the same time-we want filmmakers to be able to use REAL WEAPONS!!! Fuckin’ Idiots!!!
I am shocked law makers pass a law quickly to look like they care. And something is wrong with it these never happens. If they would just enforce laws on the books and balance there spending think that would solve more problems.
I don’t even own a gun and I’m sick of hearing about gun control.
FACT: One of the biggest attacks on American soil in U.S. history did not incorporate one single gun. (9/11)
FACT: The largest school massacre in U.S. history did not incorporate one single gun. (Bath School massacre)
FACT: Mexico has some of the strictest gun laws in the world yet boasts one of the highest per capita gun-related murder rates and a city consistently in the Top 10 of “Most Violent” in the world. (Juarez)
Considering the number of guns already out there and available, using “Gun Control” to solve gun-related violence is like using a multivitamin to cure a heroin addiction — it won’t hurt, but it certainly isn’t going to help.
Mexico has a high murder rate with guns, despite having strict gun laws, because the U.S. is supplying Mexican cartels with automatic weapons and military grade rifles. When Mexican citizens can’t legally own guns. And Mexican drug cartels are being armed by the U.S. government with military grade firepower. It’s going to be a massacre.
Mexico is a testing ground for the new U.S. gun policy. Flood the streets with illegal guns. Give them to criminals. And confiscate all weapons from U.S. citizens. It creates the need for martial law nationwide.
And you think it will be different here in the good ol’ U.S. of A? Take away the guns from law abiding citizens and give the criminals free reign! Law enforcement is not yet exempt fom the 10-round magazine loaded with 7 bullets (!!!) but we amend the law to accommodate film makers?? They make the punishment or possessing a magazine >10 rounds worse than 3rd degree rape? Child porn? Yes! Now tell me what’s wrong with this picture.
.
New York needs more laws prohibiting criminal disobedience of existing law.
Criminal disobedience of existing law would result in implementation of new laws prohibiting criminal disobedience of previous existing law, punishable by implementation of new laws prohibiting criminal disobedience of those previous existing laws.
FACT : America has a moral and ethical obligation to protect the defenseless and the helpless with legal implementation of this fact the only appropriate corrective and means of correction. Irrespective of the underlying causes this is the urgent social imperative regarding the events in Newtown, CT. This is not a matter of moral relativism or equivocation which is all that has happened.
FACT : Andrew Cuomo looks like he has a really bad case of halitosis, doesn’t he? Just staying on point here Obama-style.
I don’t know, I’m more bothered by easing restrictions on the police than I am by the easing of restrictions on film crews. Especially NYC police. If anything, the police should have MORE restrictions on them than the general population, not less.
I mean, I’ve never seen a Hollywood actor break down the wrong door whilst serving a no-knock warrent, and kill the innocent people inside by mistake. Well, unless it was in the script.
Are u serious?!?!?! Lawmakers rush to put into effect stricter gun laws, but not at the expense of the movie industries ability to film in new york. So keep the violence in movies but hopefully it wont spill out into the larger culture…….ok. What a joke, it makes them look like idiots. Willing to change the laws as long as it doesnt effect the income coming into new york, I dont think they should be able to have their cake and eat it too.
WHY do filmmakers need to use real weapons?
That’s right, disarm law-abiding people — but not criminals who will simply ignore said laws — and strip them of their right to self defense yet create plenty of loopholes for Hollywood to continue to create violence porn… It’s all part of the plan.
