Fanboys may want to pull President Obama’s film geek credentials. He appeared Friday in the White House briefing room talking about budget cuts and said he wouldn’t do a “Jedi mind-meld” with the top two Congressional Republicans. Of course, the correct term is “Vulcan mind-meld”. Tweeted a Jedi fanboy group: “We forgive President Obama for the #JediMindMeld mistake. After all, with JJ Abrams now with a foot in both camps, being a geek is tough.”

Anyone who honestly cares needs to get a job. Or better yet a life.
I think he was deliberately lying in an attempt to create class warfare between Star Wars fans and Trekkies.
That our president is evidently a moron, and has time to waste on stupid internet meme’s and pop culture references on the day thousands of public sector employees are wringing their hands, waiting to see if they’ll have a job on Monday?
Oh yeah, anyone who worries about THAT really needs a life.
Doesn’t the fact that he got it wrong mean that he didn’t spend much time on those memes and references?
And you’re sure he wanted to pull off a “Vulcan mind-meld” and not rather a “Jedi mind trick”?

Isn’t this use of The Force commonly called a Jedi Mind Trick?
If the Puppet Master said it then it must be correct. I’m sure J.J. will have the Jedi’s doing Mind Melds in;
STAR WARS Episode VII: Return of Hope and Change
The Puppet Master will get a pass on this, it’s not like he took a drink of water duing the state of the union speech.
So what? Who’d want the president to be a geek?
Maybe he meant Jedi Mind Trick?
No, the White House clearly did not confuse the two. The Star Wars reference was in Star Wars font and the Star Trek reference was in Star Trek font. They ckearly knew they were referencing two different things.
Yes, the fact that they got the fonts right is the dead giveaway that it was entirely intentional. If geeky.
You’d have to combine Vulcan power with Jedi power in order to deal with this Congress. I don’t think the President misspoke.
Of course they forgave him. If this were President Bush, it’d be “more evidence of the dumbest President in history.”
So now having a knowledge of movies determines an individual’s intelligence in America? It all makes sense why we are so far behind!!
That’s right. Because when a man consistently–almost exclusively–does stupid things, then it’s safe to conclude that man is stupid.
And when a man who usually behaves intelligently does something stupid, then it’s safe to regard that as a lapse in an intelligent man’s behavior.
consistently behaves intelligently? LoL.
Well, to be fair, Obama hasn’t yet lied to get us into a war that has cost us one trillion dollars and the world 100,000+ lives, so yeah, he gets a pass on a lot of things.
You don’t know how many his drone war has killed.
You’re right about the $1 trillion figure. It’s more like $6 trillion and counting of national debt.
It’s not much of a “drone war” when the drones are unmatched in combat.
Perhaps not entirely unmatched. The Iranians – and Chinese by extension – managed to get their hands on at least one. How they did it is a matter of debate at this point. Still, they did get one and it will come back to bit us in the ass.
He is the President. Perhaps he is privy to the next Star Wars and or Star Trek Installments. Perhaps he did it on purpose and Sci Fi geeks should be rejoicing in the streets.
Remember that speech when Obama claimed to have campaigned in “57 states…I think one left to go.”?
No. No, I don’t remember that.
I remember that.
Are you sure he made a mistake? To inflame all the Jedi warriors out there yezGOTZ2have a couple of Vulcan thumbs up your sleeve, in your ass, or pushing into your brains even if it’s in the news, on television, or on the inter-net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are the President and decide to use a reference from pop culture, the least you can do is to get it right. It sounds like he was trying to pull off another “horses and bayonets” smart guy sound bite, and it backfired spectacularly.
The President was just doing a J.J. Abrams.
He’s still a geek. Most people have not heard of a mind-meld.
He’s a fan of both and he mixed them on purpose.
But why is this entertainment news?
Far more troubling is his confusing pro-growth economic policies with anti-growth economic policies.
Oh Dear, the president isn’t a giant fat nerd! The point is the GOP is a bunch of JAr Jar binks’.
Jar Jar helped start the Empire. The GOP couldn’t start a fire with a supernova.
I’ll bet most film geeks confuse politicians with business people, lawyers, paralegals, etc.
Well he certainly is a Romulan at heart as his cloaking-device for every epic bit of ‘fail’ in his career has been pretty successful thus far.
: nerd glasses on :
I’m pretty sure Luke performed a Jedi Mind Meld when he telepathically communicated with Leia between the Millennium Falcon and Cloud City.
Kirk and McCoy also performed a Vulcan Mind Trick when they fooled Spock into believing that he had murdered Kirk (to the iconic score of Gerald Fried) in “Amok Time”, episode 2.01, air date 09.15.1967, Stardate in the Year of Lord Roddenberry 3372.7.

: THEY… WON’T… LET… GO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :
It’s not that hard to do these days.
This from a president who’d rather show up at the San Diego ComiCon than the United Nations if it got him more press. Chris Matthews would start wearing Federation uniforms and taping his fingers into a Vulcan greeting if that happened. “I love Dr. Spark,” he’d gush.
