Fox News may soon have some conservative competition. The owner of WealthTV is teaming with the Washington Times to launch One America News, which plans to debut July 1 with a 24-hour schedule of news and conservative political talk, the Wall Street Journal reports. Charles Herring, president of One America News, says the San Diego-based network expects to start with modest distribution between 10 million and 20 million homes. Herring said his family’s Herring Broadcasting is investing “hundreds of millions” of dollars into what he describes as a much needed alternative to the current situation. “MSNBC skews left, and some argue that CNN skews left,” Herring said, and only Fox “skews right”. Herring plans “to open up another front and give independents, libertarians and all kind of different voices under the conservative umbrella an opportunity to express themselves.” One America will start with a staff of between 30 and 40 people and will use the Washington Times as its D.C. bureau, leasing studio space and using its reporters on-camera. The Times will also help sell ads and take a cut of the revenue.

More balance is definitely what is needed. Good luck to the new venture.
“Herring plans ‘to open up another front and give independents, libertarians and all kind of different voices under the conservative umbrella an opportunity to express themselves.’”
How big is this “conservative umbrella”? Will there be room for the endangered species known as moderates?
The GOP moderate already have a voice in Fox News. I hopoe this TV Conservative News will be different. I hope Sara Palin and other great conservatives will be there. I can’t wait to whatch it. Hope we can have it in CA.
How about we get another alternative – REAL, INFORMATIVE NEWS!
Now, that would be something very different and shocking.
Also, why can’t we get non-commercial, non-corporate media without all the special interests and ratings obsessed people behind the camera?
“…some argue that CNN skews left,”??
Uhh, the more accurate assessment would be that Fox News is the only channel that DOESN’T “skew left”. Could that be the reason its ratings are dominant?
Have you checked the rating lately?
Yes and they are still on top!
I feel they’re more right wing than left.
Alternative to what? To the majority?
Will it be a reality based conservative talk channel, or a fantasy lie-fest like faux news? It would be really interesting to see a conservative point of view that actually tried to say something and not just a 24 hour Obama slam-channel.
Yeah, that’s what we need, another stage where a bunch of people can yap about problems and do nothing to solve them.
Maybe once this network launches we’ll finally stop hearing cries about “the mainstream media”… cries that of course ignore the fact that Fox News is the #1 rated station and therefore very much in the mainstream. No no, screw those stations that report silly things like “facts” and instead give us more of Karl Rove running around trying to make facts go away.
“Also, why can’t we get non-commercial, non-corporate media without all the special interests and ratings obsessed people behind the camera?”
Because how would it be funded? By the government, which is far more dangerous?
Works well for CBC here in Canada. Their news is second to none.
There’s a difference between “funded by” and “controlled by”. Corporate news organizations are controlled by their owners. A good publicly funded news organization beholden to no one isn’t such a bad thing.
Since they define themselves as conservative rather than objective, they should be banned from all governmental press functions including the White House press briefing room on the grounds that they are not a legitimate news organization at all but merely a propaganda network for the conservative right. Like a certain other joke “news” network I could mention.
Let’s just ban ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CSPAN and the rest of the purveyors of disinformation and outright lies! Your post proves it!
