The Disney pic eclipsed the worldwide milestone yesterday, with the international cume now at $154.2M to go along with $152.9M domestic. Oz The Great And Powerful is likely to pass $175M on Sunday in North America, with spring break vacation and the Easter weekend still to come. Sam Raimi’s 3D fantasy crossed $100M in six days after its huge $80M+ domestic debut March 8 — the biggest opening of 2013 and the third-best March opening ever — and it held its No. 1 spot this past weekend with little in the way of competition for family eyeballs.

Great movie my children loves ut
The success of this film is astonishing to me.
The actors were so miscast and bad.
The effects were cheap looking and unoriginal.
I guess you missed the article quoting the North American Theater Owners rep who blamed low Q1 profits on a lack of family fare at the box office. Until the Croods opens, this was really the only game in town. Good marketing and perfect scheduling can apparently make up for a miscast, mediocre film.
This is hardly the first bad movie to do well. Just look at that terrible Alice mess. Movie succeed because of a bankable name like Depp, plus visuals and action.
Say what you want about ‘Oz’ (I haven’t seen it), but Disney scheduled it perfectly, much like their POTC franchise. It benefited from being the first big ‘event’ movie of the year, and from multiple, reliable family-friendly brands (Oz; Disney).
Freaking awesome news, long may it continue… Brilliant Disney family movie.
That’s more to the credit of Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams, who both saved this film from the bad miscasting of James Franco and Mila Kunis.
Great news! I absolutely loved this film. Incredibly entertaining, and great special effects. The people who hate this film are just an extremely annoying, and vocal minority. Get over it. James Franco rules.
This was the worst movie I have ever seen. It ruined my life. I’m getting my eyes removed to make sure I never accidentally see it again.
I thought it was a wonderful film that tipped its hat to the original. The special effects were meant to be modest, but they were quite enjoyable. The cast was just fine. What I love is that its success flies in the face of the nasty chorus of cynics that live in Hollywood. I hope Oz makes Disney a bundle.
FRANCO IS NOT A MOVIE STAR. Neither is mila. They are both awful. This is a shame. And a sham.
You are the shame and the sham it’s a wonderful movie that people love. Real people who actually spend their own money to go see a good movie.
I really enjoyed this movie. It’s not perfect but much better than most of the crap out there. Kudos to Disney and Sam Raimi! I will be first in line at the sequel
My kids loved the Movie. Awesome effects and it answered a lot of question from the original and left a lot of room for a sequel.
Whether it’s good or not, it hasn’t broke even at 325 million~the cost of making this movie~~~
I thought it was excellent. I ate up every minute and can’t point to one actor who did not shine. But we are all entitled to our opinions. I think they missed one BIG mark. The impact of “Wizard of Oz” was the music. They would have hit a Billion with a musical.
