ER alumna Parminder Nagra has been cast in the ABC pilot Reckless. Written/exec produced by Chris Black and
directed/exec produced by Martin Campbell, the thriller centers on David (Patrick Fugit), a resourceful problem solver who, when his wife Sarah (Eloise Mumford) is unjustly imprisoned during a political uprising overseas, resorts to entering a world of political intrigue, dangerous alliances and high emotional stakes in order to get her out. Nagra plays David’s co-worker Susan, the chief financial offer for the company and a trusted advisor to the family.
Da’vine Joy Randolph, Tony nominee for Ghost the musical on Broadway, has been cast opposite Ellie Kamper in NBC comedy pilot Brenda Forever. Written by Andrew Leeds and David Lampson and produced by Sony TV, it blends stories from Brenda Miller’s (Kemper) past and present to give a unique portrait of how a chubby, awkward, but incredibly confident 13-year-old grew up to be a 31-year-old woman who still marches to the beat of her own drum. Randolph, repped by Paradigm and Fox Rothschild, will play Brenda’s friend Pearl.

YAY DIVERSITY!
I saw Da’vine in Ghost, and she was hysterical… very happy for her.
Da’vine is one to watch, for sure. Fresh talent! And, Parminder is a beauty. It’s cool to see her back on TV. I’m psyched for both of these ladies.
No disrespect to Da’Vine, who I’m sure was wonderful in Ghost, but NBC certainly has a “type” that they cast when it comes to black women in their comedies.
And that type is heavy and sassy. With the mid 90′s mentality they’re stuck in it’s no wonder they’re struggling.
This is awesome. Diversity for sure.
A heavy set, funny Black female character named Pearl. Wow! This is so forward thinking I can barely conceive of how they are going to pull off something so groundbreaking.
