As much as they say sweeps don’t matter anymore, the broadcast networks still try to put their best foot forward in November, February and in May. And on the first night following the February sweep last night, most networks switched to repeats. That left Fox’s American Idol, ABC’s Zero Hour and NBC’s Community and 1600 Penn as the only original choices last night. None took advantage. Idol‘s final Vegas edition (3.8/11 in adults 18-49) was down a tenth from last Thursday. Fox still won the night handily in 18-49 and all other key demos, as well as total viewers. ABC’s Zero Hour (1.0/3) fell another tenth to a new series low. NBC’s Community (1.1/4) was even with last week’s series low despite not facing a The Big Bang Theory original this time. 1600 Penn (0.9/2) continues to fade, down a tenth from last week to a series low. Overall, adults 18-49 usage last night was down -6% from 8-11 PM vs last week, which reflects young viewers’ decreased appetite for broadcast TV when there are so many repeats on. But reruns once again worked well for CBS, whose encores were only outranked by Idol last night — Big Bang Theory (2.8/9), Two And A Half Men (2.2/6), Person Of Interest (1.9/5) and Elementary (1.6/5).

It should also be noted that in the Greater Cleveland area, the NBC affiliate WKYC aired an episode of Matlock from 9-11pm instead of The Office, 1600 Penn, and Law & Order: SVU. I don’t know how much of an impact it will make in the final ratings, but I feel that it still needs to be brought up. WKYC will do the same thing next Thursday as well.

And “Matlock” on WKYC actually beat out repeats of “Scandal” and the Jimmy Kimmel Oscars special on ABC affiliate WEWS. Surprise indeed, but this doesn’t look good for NBC nationally.
POI rerun with zero promotion beat heavy promoted golden boy premiere.
Now POI is best drama om reruns and beat most half hours too. Including MF, NG and even some of CBS multi cams.
NELLIE, do you have any information when WB will sell POI to syndication and on what channel? The batle will be between USA, FX, TNT, ACM.
will 1600 Penn be cancelled this morning or this afternoon?
I doubt it will be pulled. NBC doesn’t have anything that will perform significantly better and all the episodes are already in the can.
Until they have shot episodes of ‘Save Me’ and then move Penn to burn off in the heat of summer.
I was assuming they were putting Save Me on Tuesday after The Voice rather than trying to stretch 4 episodes of Goon/TNN until May.
And I doubt Save Me will do any better than 1600 Penn in that slot.
Anything that stars Jenna Elfman is bound to get canceled as she is a horrible actress with absolutely no talent and is today ted mcGinley. 1600 Penn will be done by the month’s end and Zero Hour was officially canceled by ABC today.
1600 Penn has not been canceled yet but it will be in the next few weeks time and Zero Hour just reached that zenith today…it got KOed by ABC today. Both shows were abysmal and the ratings stated it clearly.
Petar,
POI is in the prime 9pm Thursday slot, not in the 10pm Tuesday Death Slot!
Community is such a train-wreck this year, and its ratings reflect its declining quality. Another great show ruined by NBC meddling.
Community is completely Brittaed.
ever-decreasing A1849 numbers reflects TV’s pathetic continued reliance on them. broadcast TV needs to give up on younger viewers. the CW specifically targets them and can’t draw them in. they don’t watch TV they don’t watch TV the same way and never will. they need to refocus their efforts on the VIEWERS still watching TV and not the DEMOS that aren’t.
You’ve got that backwards. The increasing scarcity of younger demos makes them vastly more valuable due to supply and demand. There’s a reason Fox makes a fortune from Animation Domination, which skews both young and male.
Plus, don’t blame the networks, blame the advertisers. Convince advertisers to pay for older demos and the networks will adapt. Just don’t get upset when it results in a stripped edition of Dateline.
@ Apples and Oranges
bad excuse for flop show. CSI premiere on real Death Slot – friday. Tuesday is NCIS day with zero real competition.
Golden boy was DOA in the first place and CBS only waste money and time in pointless advertisment for that crap. Post super bowl waste is other topic for bad decision making from CBS.
I can understand the turban gimmick but what is with the yellow pants? Glad to see him go, I never thought he had the talent to get as far as he did.
Dear NBC:
I have an idea to help boost your dismal ratings performance. I propose a new reality series called “The Voiceless” It’s a talent competition for mimes.
