Last year was a good one for the exhibition industry, and the CEO of the No. 1 theater chain. Regal gave Amy Miles the highest compensation package she has seen since 2009, according to the company proxy just filed at the SEC. It included $800,000 in salary, $1.79M in stock awards, $1.2M in non-equity compensation, and $668,409 in other compensation. Miles’ compensation was 2.8 times higher than the median for the three other executives listed in the proxy, in the safe zone for corporate watchdogs wary of excessive CEO power. Regal shares appreciated 16.8% last year. The company plans to hold its annual meeting on May 8 in Knoxville, TN.

Ah… so that’s why Regal has the most outrageously priced concessions – sodas, popcorn, etc.
OTOH, they are the best of the chains during Awards season.
I disagree. Seems like Edwards is worse. But what can you expect from a business that makes 80% of their revenue from concessions.
You do realize they are the same chain, right?
Edwards is Regal
…while MOST of the rank and file front line employees and managers in the theaters are paid minimum wage or just barely above it….Corporate greed at it’s worst….Raise the Minimum Wage to a decent, livable rate NOW!
Why should they raise it? They perform a job that requires absolutely 0 skill and most of them (AMC especially) do it without a smile or a good attitude.
Then REASON they don’t smile and have a bad attitude is because their employer (like all movie theaters, fast-food companies, retail, etc.) is taking advantage of them by paying them peanuts while the CEOs and shareholders are getting millions of dollars off the employees’ hard work…..
Maybe you should live on the minimum wage, see how you like it.
Not everybody has a rich mommy or daddy tht gets them a convertible, donates money to ensure their kid graduates college, and then gets them a good-paying job that requires less skill and competenence than the minimum wage job you are maligning.
A lot of these Deadline commenters are living in the spoiled, fantasy world that only few can ever dream about.
She is a great CEO. Deserves every $$$$.
STRONGLY DISAGREE
Regal is ridiculously expensive. I’m glad I don’t have one near me. However, there is no reason to pay your employees chump change like that. It’s taking advantage. Furthermore, it’s not a job that just anyone can do. It is a JOB. You wouldn’t believe how unreliable people are, even the ones that so-called graduated from college and “worked hard.” These people could be paid better. It doesn’t have to be a ridiculous minimum wage like what is being paid in Australia, but it could be enough to get an apartment.
It sure would be nice if they compensated their DM’s for all the hard work and long hours they put in!!! If the company is doing so well, why change our excellent health coverage to a lower tier company? Makes no sense to me.
Too bad they couldn’t keep people from getting in their theater. Check out the Ethan Saylor story.
