Shailene Woodley is negotiating to star as Hazel Grace Lancaster in Fox 2000‘s The Fault In Our Stars. An adaptation of John Green’s bestseller, the film will be helmed by Josh Boone. Script is by (500) Days Of Summer and The Spectacular Now screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber. Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing.
This is the story of romance between Gus and Hazel, who meet in their cancer support group and fall head over heels in love. Rather than dwelling on the depressing nature of the limited time they have together, the two embark on a vibrant, passionate, and hilarious journey that proves that an entire life’s worth of meaning can be found in any stretch of time.
Said Boone: “During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses. Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.”
Woodley, whose breakout came in The Descendants, followed with The Spectacular Now and will star in Divergent for Summit.

I have high hopes for SPECTACULAR, but 500 DAYS was one of the more overrated movies imaginable.
Jesus! Who is she repped by? She is everywhere and landing everything. And to think she originally came to most people’s attention with some of the worst acting on TV with that idiotic teenage pregnancy show.
Right? She’s not even a really good actress. I think this movie is so gonna ruin the book.
Agreed. She is a overrated actress. I guess working with George Clooney helped her career, but I only see her as a flavor of the month.
EWWWW they HAD to go with a name? And HER? They should have brought along someone new. Or at least someone who was not already taking every role for young girls. SW is like the new Kristen Stewart. We are over her….
How is she a name?
Most people would hear “Shailene Woodley” and have no idea who that is.
Paradigm if I’m not mistaken. Her work in The Spectacular Now is a revelation to watch. That work coupled with the Descendants and she’s 1 of 2 go-to under 22 actresses that can act… And it’s crazy but she can play stunningly gorgeous and vibrant or surprisingly “real” and average with makeup off. Also has an old soul quality that will allow her to play from 17-27 believably I think. It’s her and Jennifer Lawrence. I’d love to see them onscreen together. That would be interesting & great.
Jennifer Lawrence is another one that is overrated.
She’s gorgeous. And talented. I just wish she would have left this for someone else. Good for her.
Yeah because RESTLESS did so well – the young really want to rush out and see that new cancer movie.
They will. For the same reason they bought the book by the millions. It has a rabid following, as well as the author John Green.
RESTLESS, in my opinion, was a piece of garbage written by someone who can’t write. It was made because he was friends with Bryce Dallas Howard, who’s dad brought it to Van Sant.
This is what we call an “ad hominem argument.” Attacking the quality of the writing by making absolutely no mention of the quality of the writing, and instead attacking the writer. And implying that a studio is willing to spend millions and a director is willing to spend time and risk his reputation in order to do a favor for a friend of a daughter of someone powerful — well, that’s just idiotic.
I think Shailene and her costars suffered from the worst writing to ever exist on television but to say she isn’t talented may be a gross misjudgment.
According to ImdbPro, she’s repped by both Stella Alex at The Savage Agency and Paradigm. Must be some sort of split commission arrangement.
Shai is a huge talent. and, people who have worked with her rave that you won’t find a classier act.
Maybe it’s me, but I miss the days when studios made rom coms rather than romantic dramas. Yes, I’m sure it’s a beautiful book and people will be laughing through the tears, but in the end it’s just hard to get excited about taking a date to a cancer movie.
