EXCLUSIVE: Southland co-star Shawn Hatosy has joined the cast of CBS‘ drama pilot Reckless, directed by Catherine Hardwicke from a script by Dana Stevens. The sultry legal show set in Charleston, South Carolina, centers on Jamie, a gorgeous Yankee litigator, and Roy, a Southern City Attorney (Cam Gigandet), who struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal. Hatosy, who plays Det. Sammy Bryant on Southland, will play another police detective, bad-boy Trey. For Hatosy, the casting is in second position to Southland, which is currently airing its fifth season. The critically praised cop show, which originated on NBC, has never been a big ratings performer and is again on the bubble, but it has been a prestige series for TNT, which has not made a decision on its future. Hatosy, repped by IFA and H2F Entertainment joins fellow Southland star Ben McKenzie, who also booked a CBS drama pilot, The Advocates.
Dexter co-star James Remar has been cast as leads in NBC’s pilot Hatfields & McCoys, a take on the infamous feud set in present-day Pittsburgh. The startling death of the McCoy patriarch re-ignites the feud between the two legendary families, unleashing decades of resentment. Remar, repped by Gersh and Lighthouse Entertainment, plays the powerful and very wealthy Joe Hatfield, estranged husband to Mary Hatfield (Rebecca De Mornay). He is currently filming the eighth and unofficially final season of Dexter (Remar’s deal is up at the end of the season), recently shot indie Horns and is seen playing dual roles in Django Unchained.

The tv biz was waiting for this kid to become available, and boom, he gets locked down within 24 hours of the opening. Shawn is a tremendously talented actor and awesome individual. Congrats to him!
This cannot be good news for “Southland”, right? Wow. How such a terrificly written and acted show can underperform or be “on the bubble” just goes to show what a bunch of dolts the American viewing public can be. Meanwhile, dreck such as “NCIS” and “Big Bang Theory” march on to ratings glory and popular acclaim.
The “Southland” actors Hatosy and McKenzie, along with Regina King and Cudlitz, form one hell of a cast. But the WRITING of this show blows me away. It’s like a way more polished, thoughtful and better executed version, week in and out, of “End of Watch”, which I thought wasn’t too shabby a feature film about L.A. cops in its own right.
Amen, Brother.
Amen.
This truly is a bad omen for one of my favorite shows. Southland is one of the best cast, written and directed shows currently on television and it is a crying shame that the dolts and dullards who are off watching the network shows, don’t know what they are missing. I’ve enjoyed the run. Good luck to the cast, I know with your talent, you’ll do vey well.
Go Ajax! James Remar Rules!
Love James Remar in everything he is in. Super cool actor and can’t wait for him to step into joe Hatfield. He does great in all the movies and he can Di no wrong from Sex And The City to Dexter.
Hatosy should have been killed off on season one of Southland anyway, he is nowhere near vital for the show.
McKenzie is a more vital character, but he can be replaced by another rookie golden boy cop.
King and Cudlitz, if the show loses either of them, it is officially doomed.
Dead wrong, Juan. Hatosy is pivotal to the show.
SOUTHLAND is officially the best show on TV. You have to go back to SOPRANOS or THE WIRE to find anything to equal it. Lets hope TNT is smart enough to renew it and its GREAT CAST.
Better yet would be that HBO or Showtime pick it up and give it a home.
I believe that ALL of the actors on Southland have been making themselves available for pilots.
Mckenzie and Hatosy were able to nab roles. It doesn’t mean that the others (Cudlitz, etc.) haven’t been trying and somehow are more “loyal” to the show.
Hatosy is one of the greatest actors of his generation! HIs career should be much bigger. The show is lucky to land him.
