EXCLUSIVE: On the heels of his frequent collaborator and friend Hugh Laurie becoming a TV star in America with House, popular British actor/comedian/writer/game show host Stephen Fry has signed on for his first U.S. pilot. Fry will play the co-lead opposite fellow Brit Rupert Grint in CBS’ single-camera comedy pilot Super Clyde. Written/executive produced by Greg Garcia and directed by Mike Fresco, it is about Clyde (Rupert Grint), a meek, unassuming fast food worker who decides to become a super hero. Fry will play Super Clyde’s sidekick, Randolph, the butler — the Alfred to Clyde’s Bruce Wayne. Fry, repped by ICM Partners and UK’s Hamilton Hodell. On US TV, Fry did an arc on Fox’s Bones.

If this doesn’t go forward on CBS (which it probably won’t), I seriously hope USA picks it up. It is the most original idea for a comedy series since Andy Barker, P.I. That was in the 2006-07 season. It’s about time for something new.
This sounds way too cool/weird for CBS.
Kick Ass the TV show… I await the wrath of comic dorks everywhere!
Yeah this is too different CBS. They’ll be dicks and cancel it. This is more for any of the other networks.
Like who, NBC, or ABC, who keep cancelling good shows. CBS has been the fairest, by giving shows chances. Plus this is Greg Garcia we are talking about, and freaking Rupert Grint, and freaking Stephen Fry. Mash up all the fandom that at least these three dudes bring, that’s a total TV blast.
A British version of The Tick on CBS…yeah…that is going to last.
CBS’s old racists, dumb children, dumb racists and old children will reject the British and novel nature of this show whether it’s good or not. I’m generalizing, but not even close to wrong.
My family and I love absolutely adore the venerable Stephen Fry, been a fan since Jeeves and Wooster circa 1990!
Agree with everyone else. I love the cast, I’m intrigued by the original premise and Garcia has a great track record but there’s no way this is going to fly on CBS. Far too weird. It’d be a stretch on Fox or ABC.
I’d love to see them prove me wrong, though!
CBS is assembling some truly amazing casts this pilot season.
“On the heels of his frequent collaborator and friend Hugh Laurie becoming a TV star in America with House”
Didn’t “House” premiere in 2004? Is doing something 9 years later really “on the heels” of someone or something?
Plenty of people will watch anything with Stephen Fry!
Wasn’t this already a movie called “Super” with the weird guy from the American “Office?”
That ddn’t turn out to be a comedy, and on CBS, this won’t, either.
I (sorta) like Fry well enough but even if I search for, and find, my eyeglasses I would not see a future for this tripe.
I wonder if Stephen Fry realizes that he has been forever typecast as “the wise butler?”
I wonder if you’re actually familiar with all Mr. Fry’s work.
I would prefer to see Laurie and Fry get together and do a spoofy version of Holmes and Watson. I would laugh my ass off at that.
That’s the best idea I’ve heard of for a long time. Set it in modern times for cost reasons, maybe give them different (but close) first names. Yeah…I can see it.
Please forget about the pilot and bring “Gordon Gordon” back to Bones. Best Bones character ever!
I’m speechless. I’m literally without speech.
