Probably feeling nostalgic with The Office wrapping production on its final season over the weekend, star Rainn Wilson yesterday posted a copy of the sign-in log for his Office audition almost 10 years ago, which provided a glimpse into who else tested for lead roles on the Emmy-winning NBC series. Wilson auditioned for both the Michael and Dwight roles. Adam Scott and Hamish Linklater read for Jim, Alan Tudyk for Michael, and Ever Carradine, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Anne Dudek for Pam. Jenna Fischer, who got the Pam role, is also on the sheet. According to Fischer, the producers tried out four candidates for each of the four central characters, mixing and matching them. That likely happened after Paul Giamatti, then-NBC boss Kevin Reilly’s top choice to play Michael Scott, passed. It was Stacey Snider, then chairwoman of Universal Pictures, who urged sibling NBC to cast Steve Carell in the role.

Doesn’t seem like the kind of thing a casting director wants leaked on the internet. Not to mention the actors who auditioned.
Oh, please.
It’s names with appointment times and Agency. It’s not like their Social Security numbers, or cell numbers were on the sheet. Anyone can find out what agency these people belong to with a simple Google search.
Oh, no!!!!! We know were these mildly famous people were on November 11, 2003 for 30 minutes. Wake the President!!!
Stop being an alarmist.
Wow, dude. You took some time with that one. I believe it is you who needs to chillax
Yes, clearly I’m unhinged.
Took time with two short paragraphs and two short sentences?
Thanks for hanging the bait out there, but I’m not biting.
It’s not. We don’t love it.
I missed my audition that day. Damn it!

Can’t see Mary Lynn Rajskub as Pam.
But I actually can see Alan Tudyk as Michael – he would have been very good.
Second that. Just plant his character from Suburgatory as Michael.
Interesting! Mary Lynn Rajskub (if the timing serves my memory correctly) ended up nabbing her role as Chloe on “24″!
Cool beans, my brother.
guess APA didn’t get any times for their clients…
I was in the NBC casting department at the time and this is not the final sign-in for either the studio or network test. This show did not test in November of 2003. It tested in late winter of 2004. (And an awesome Test it was!! – but this is not it.)
Adam Scott and Hamish Linklater have “please punch me in the f’n face” appeal. Good choice to go with Krasinski as the everyman.
Jim Zulevic was a genius at Chicago’s Second City, and well loved friend to all that met him. He passed just as things started to take off for him. It’s very cool to see him on this list.
Tons of people like to take credit for the idea of casting Carell but here’s the truth. Greg Daniels and the amazing Allison Jones deserve primary credit, of course. Ken Kwapis, Howard Klein and Teri Weinberg were there throughout the whole process as well. David Kissinger and Universal Television were chasing a holding deal with Carell. In fact they were the first ones to pitch The Office to Carell and Steve Sauer. Stacey Snider? Ben Silverman? They may have weighed in by the end but it wasn’t their idea. Not even close.
