Universal Cable Prods. SVP Maira Suro has exited the studio after a three-year stint. Suro headed development for external networks at UCP, leading the studio’s efforts over the past couple of years to expand its portfolio beyond sister nets USA and Syfy. They resulted in two series, MTV’s I Just Want My Pants Back and Lifetime’s Against The Wall, which lasted a season each, as well as a slew of development projects at cable and broadcast networks, some of which are still active. In light of Suro’s exit, it is unclear whether UCP will stay in the business of selling to outside networks. Before joining UCP in 2010, Suro was SVP, West Coast series development, MTV Networks. She also worked for Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope Television.
In other development executive departures, Phil Breman is exiting his post as executive director, development for Disney Channel where he had been since 2008. I hear he is considering several options including one inside Disney. Before joining Disney Channel, Breman was a sitcom writer for six years and worked in the development department at NBC.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Disney Channel has an inverse ratio of success to job security.
Maira never actually showed up to work and was widely disliked by her colleagues. When you’re an exec making hundreds of thousands of dollars, it would be nice if you cared enough to be around. She was a bad hire for Wachtel and I’ll bet she’ll have trouble finding work again.
It couldn’t happen to a nicer person!
It’s about time Universal figured out they needed to get rid of Maira Suro.
Maira Suro is one talentless menace to talent! Good riddance!
Ding dong the witch is dead!
Maira deserved it. She’s done nothing of value at UCP and god knows she can’t play well with others.
Phil on the other hand should have been promoted. He single handedly created and developed more shows there than the rest of that team.
That Disney Channel development department gets shaken up every couple of years. They’ve been through 3 VPs in the past 4 years. Now they’ve pushed Phil out. Seems that the more you succeed at Disney, the more you fail.
Disney cggcm
Maura built something out of nothing, let’s show a little respect.
Maybe Wachtel should replace Suro with Breman.
Ha! Love it.
Why so much hatred? It’s not like she murdered someone.
Ditto on the “witch is dead.” What a vile, arrogant person. I wonder how much $$ UCP lost because of her.
She really did have nothing to work with when she got here and the studio is kind of dysfunctional. She does have talent and is smart. Maybe it was not the right fit?
The “witch is dead”? Who are you people? Obviously no one who matters if you can talk like that. Maira is smart and knows her stuff, the studio wasn’t the right place. And if you actually knew Maira, you’d know there’s now way anyone could call her “vile.”
I love her. Great executive!
Phil is a class act, good guy and will be a great addition to another company. I wish him well. Art
Great executive? Maira is smart and knows her stuff???
Do you owe her money? Come on, there’s a reason nobody likes this woman. She got axed because she is an enemy of talent and somehow thought that she has more creativity than everybody else around her. Seems that others think differently. Whoever thinks to hire her will be getting someone who drives talent away.
Kent,
Have you actually worked with Maira or developed at UCP?
