EXCLUSIVE: Victoria Principal, one of the iconic stars of the 1980s hit Dallas, is putting to rest rampant speculation that she may join her co-stars Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray on TNT‘s sequel series. In a statement released exclusively to Deadline, Principal explains why she would never reprise her character, last seen in a fiery car crash on the original series. Rumors about Principal possibly joining the new Dallas had intensified over the past couple of months following the sudden death of Larry Hagman. His passing left a void on the Dallas reboot, triggering speculation that producers may want to bring another star from the original show. There had been chatter that Principal’s character, Pamela Ewing, may appear at J.R.’s funeral and that an upcoming storyline on the show that may involve Pam; Pam and Bobby’s (Duffy) adopted son, Christopher, is played on the TNT series by Jesse Metcalfe. While down in the ratings in its current second season which airs on a new night, Dallas is considered likely to get a third-season renewal. Since leaving Dallas in 1987, Principal has created and runs a multimillion-dollar skin care line. Here is her statement:
“Since the inception of ‘Dallas’, the creators and fans around the world have referred to Bobby and Pam, as the Romeo & Juliet of ‘Dallas’. I could not agree more. And since the original author of this scenario, William Shakespeare, felt compelled to make theirs a tragic love story, of epic and unforgettable deathly loss, I think I shall respect that very successful example, and leave the legacy of Bobby & Pam’s tragic love story, undisturbed and intact.
When I filmed Pam’s fatal car accident, for me that was the punctuation mark on my role as Pam. I cannot be held responsible for any choices made by producers, once I left ‘Dallas’, but I do take responsibility for my decision, not to risk tarnishing Bobby & Pam’s love story, with a desperate reappearance. I made this decision a long time ago with a loving and respectful heart for ‘Dallas’, Bobby & Pam and all faithful fans.”

“They didn’t offer me enough money.”
I forgot the other part:
“My infomercials pay more.”
That was exactly my first thought.
Jesse Metcalfe said last week “I’m excited about the possibility of Victoria Principal coming onto the show” and then an official TNT spoiler released on Thursday alluded to her possible appearance on the revival in an upcoming episode. And they knew all the time she wouldn’t appear on the show. Good for her for ruining their cheap ruse.
it would be nice to have her come back but not all things happen.can’t wait for to be seen .
I always liked Victoria, and would really like to see her back on Dallas. But, I think the show should make it well worth her time. It would probably boost ratings if she did come back on. I watch it anyway, but can see an intriguing storyline if Victoria came back. But, I’m just a viewer so what do I know?
I agree, I would love to see her come back if only for a few episodes. I’m not a regular watcher but I did tune in for the funeral for the return of the other family members. There was nothing like Pam & Bobby’s relationship…
Victoria Principal forgets that she took part in a Dallas reunion special. There has to be a mandatory agreement in actor contracts that if you star in a series, and the fans love you, then you are obligated to return for any specials or series continuations.
She has tons of money from her business. Principal Secret made her far richer than being an actress. No way could TNT Dallas offer her enough money to entice her.
She would have never had that business probably if it wasn’t for her role on Dallas. Nobody would have known her name. The money she used to start her business was made playing her role on Dallas. So she should as least be thankful for that to at least show up for the funeral episode. I mean this is Larry Hagman/J.R.Ewing. I don’t care if she comes back or not. I like the show no matter what. But she is blowing smoke. Something else happened when she left the show. Bobby came back from the dead after a whole season in the most stupid way one time. A whole season a dream. Then Pam went looking for a dead guy for a whole season. I mean seriously anything can happen on Dallas. Even Pam coming back. She knows that.
i don’t see how anyone could doubt that ms. principal is, in fact, quite “thankful” for what the original dallas did for her life and career. the current version of dallas is regularly hinting that she might come back, seeing as there are references to her having mysteriously disappeared somewhere in the middle east. so the door appears to be open. however, it is hard to imagine how even crafty, clever, imaginative writers could explain her reappearance after dying in a f*ing car wreck 30 something years ago. in this case, it would be embarrassing to try.
She didn’t die in the car wreck. She was badly burned and disfigured. There was an episode where she contacted Bobby to sign divorce papers because she had fallen in love with the plastic surgeon who put her back together after the wreck. It was a different actress of course but that was truly the end of Pam and Bobby…
Pam for Pam….might be why she wasn’t in the “circle”
I’d love to see her back, but she has spoken. One can only hope
she dosen’t regret it. “A fool and their money” ….yeah… U have the right idea…. signed…Disapointed!
I Think She Needs To Come Back!! She Owes It To Her Fans Of 10,000 To 20,000 of Them!!
Dallas Is Not Dallas If Pam Isn’t In It, Just Like JR If Larry Didn’t Die JR would Be There, So She Needs To Come Back!!!
There Was No Body, She Was Kidnaped From The Hospital & Taking Away By Her Sister Katherine She Paid A Dr. Gordon To Tell Pam She Was Dying & She Wasn’t!! When Pam Hit That Truck She Told Bobby That She Was In Good Health & Ready To Have A Baby!!
So That Tells You Nothing Was Wrong With Pam Her Sister Katherine Was Be Hind It All!!!
So Please Bring Her Back We Need Her On Dallas It Just Isn’t The Same With Out Her!!!
Cynthia Cidre Needs To Ask Her To Come Back!!! Cidre Never Ask VP To Come Back & Play Pam!!!
So Please, Please Ask Her To Come Back To Dallas!!!!!!!
She hasn’t acted in years. She can’t act anymore.
She was never much of an actress, but she’s very pretty and I would like to see her on TV again. Apparently, she has a rare blood condition, so perhaps that’s a factor in her decision not to return to the series for even a few episodes. Her appearance would boost the ratings, at least for a while.
She couldn’t act then either!
Pam has enough money with the launch of her skin care line and there’s more to life then just money… What about your fans an appearance wouldn’t hurt. Pam “Please come back!”
Victoria, I’m not sure you understand. As one of the MANY fans of Dallas, new and old, many questions were left unresolved. Pam IS alive, that is certain. Why did she walk away from her son, Bobby and her friends and family after the terrible fire. To return to Dallas would NOT be a desperate appearance to resolve those questions any more than Hagman or any other former cast member reappearing.
And just think of the juicy scenes your “acting chops” could bite into!
Ah, come on–rethink that decision! Lol.
She obviously understands. When she filmed the car crash she considered the character dead. The later revelation that Pam was alive is exactly the “choice made by the producers after (she) left ‘Dallas’” that she’s referring to. Cleaning up their retcon isn’t her problem. They can have another actress do it if anyone’s so desperate to have that plot point cleared up.
Yes Pam’s character was suggested to be ‘Alive’ and in hiding etc, BUT if you can remember the final scenes (with a totally different actress) suggested also she did not want to return to Bobby as she didn’t have long left………. as in she was dying? She didn’t want to cause him anymore heartbreak? yes it left the situation unresolved, but as an avid fan since a child, (just spent 2 years watching re-runs 5 nights a week)i think most people are happy to move on from the fairytale romance that was Bobby and Pam, accept she died (presumably) and accept the new relationship with Anne (even though she is a cliff barnes cast off) never the less, accept that there is life after Pam and April!!! and Bobby ALWAYS lands on his feet… doesn’t he???
Are you kidding? Bobby died, in the dream sequence, and it was ALL A DREAM, yet remained one of the top 10 clifhangers on the 2004 Return to southfork!
Anne was never involved with Cliff Barnes. Where did that come from?
Season 10, Episode 18 Brenda Strong played Cliff Barnes “One Night Stand” Not as the character Anne – that is where that comes from.
Can’t agree more!
I don’t understand the sentence, “I cannot be held responsible for any choices made by producers, once I left ‘Dallas’…” Could she possibly still be holding some kind of grudge against the show? And does she not understand that a completely different set of people are behind this new version?
If not, Principal should watch the new show. Cynthia Cidre is doing everything she can to be reverential to the old series– while still moving the new one forward. It’s a tough balancing act and she is succeeding far often than not.
Likening Bobby & Pam’s relationship to Shakespeare is laying it on a bit thick. This is still Dallas. Something else (unsaid) is going on here or VP is just holding out for a bigger payday… As the words, “…a desperate reappearance…” make no sense. If TNT wants her, the producers want her and most importantly, the FANS want her… What’s so “desperate” about reappearing on Dallas? It’s Dallas!
The new series is plot-driven drivel with poor characterization and incoherent storylines which fails to capture the original spirit of the 1970s series which was a great character-driven multi-generational family drama.
The new Dallas is basically a TNT crime procedural with elements of ‘Melrose in Texas’ to give it some trashy soapiness. It may be somewhat better than the dismal post-Principal latter years of the original series (1987-1991), though.
I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve been a fan since day one, and I have been impressed by the excellent writing of the new reboot.
Don’t you just get tired of these people that HATE a show just because it isn’t the original show. Get a freaking life and just don’t watch. Its simple as that…really.
“I cannot be responsible” refers to the fact that, after she left, the producers decided that Pam would still be alive. Pam still living doesn’t obligate Victoria to reappear on a show she left.
I don’t think it’s about money. Larry, Linda, and Patrick signed on in large part because they like working with each other. Victoria doesn’t share that desire.
I was thinking the same thing. Something else is behind all of this. Nobody else has a problem “coming back form the dead” so to speak. Bobby did it. He was gone for a whole season dead then the next season it is oops sorry last season was a dream and Bobby isn’t dead. What is so special about Victoria that she can’t have a story line where she really isn’t dead.
For goodness sake, get a look-alike tiny clone with a high little voice, put some fake scars on her and let’s play pretend. Bobby deserves to be loved…and so do the fans. Loyalty Victoria, remember?
You left out big…what was it J.R. call them? Ah yes, buoys.
that was in reference to the look-alike actress playing pam in the couple scenes after pam’s crash
I personally think she doesn’t know how to act anymore. I think she has since forgotten how to be “Pam Ewing”. I can’t believe she would do something like this. I think it is about money and maybe she and duffy don’t have that chemistry anymore the way they use to. I am sure she would have to audition in order to return as Pam, right? Well, would happen if Duffy didn’t get “slackjawed” and say “please oh please Pam”, come back? I am starting to like Anne anyway. Afterall Bobby is too good to look backwards thinking about Pam Barnes!
Why would this be about money? She would not lose the money she has. She would only gain more.
I agree that the comparison with Shakespeare is reaching – over the top. After all, what always made Dallas a hit is that it’s fun. And it would be fun if Pamela Ewing Barnes returned for a few shows, but to convolute the story line around a reconciliation between Pam and Bobby isn’t necessary, even though the combination of Bobby & Ann lack luster. I think the writers need to consider a long-term view of where they want these relationships should go, even though they seem to be scrambling right now to fill Larry Hagman’s void. I, personally, think Victoria Principal will change her mind, but now she’s enjoying the attention of all the speculation.
They can always do what they did on “Dynasty” with Steven. Have plastic surgery on her face and let Pamela being played by different actress.
That’s exactly what I thought. If VP doesn’t want to come back, another actress will. So, “I am Pam, I was just badly burned in the accident and plastic surgery.” Now, who is really going to be the new Pam Barnes Ewing or VP just blowing smoke? I watched the original Dallas and I’m a fan of this one too. Keep it comin’
You go, girl! Thank you! LOVE YOU for clearing this up! You are the best and don’t forget it! I thank God you have the smarts not to ruin your character with the horrible writing of the new Dallas. They would never be able to do right by you!
Well it’s not up to the excellent quality of “Titans” LMFAO
I thoroughly agree with Victoria Principal and I applaud her for her upfront answer to this question. A statement was made when Victoria made her last appearance and this should not be tarnished in any way, with, as she said, a “reappearance” requiring more appearances and explanations. I truly enjoyed you Victoria on the show and I applaud you for what has become of your life. I have watched your info-commercials many times and I get pleasure in seeing you in your present endeavor and in using your product. As a true fan of Dallas know that you shall always be remembered fondly.
I would like to have victoria principal to come back to Dallas the orinal series up to the new series have some one plays like jr did.
Iam sorry to hear about Larry Hagman, he did play a goodrole.Ihopeto the new show.
Love Victoria! She is awesome! But the fans want Pam back and I do as well. If Victoria doesn’t wish to return it’s only fair to the fans to simply recast with another actress. That way we can have Pam back
Pamela’s car accident wasn’t fatal – she reappeared on the series for a brief scene a year after Principal left the show, played by another actress.
I’m disappointed with her decision, but I have to say I respect her for it. How would they come up with an explanation for Pamela staying away from her husband and son for 25 years? She’s right; it would only tarnish Pam’s legacy. But the series sorely misses her. While she was never a great actress, the camera loved her and she did a great job as the heroine of the original series. Once she left, it was never the same.
Hasn’t she ever heard of a role being recast? Other actresses can play the character and it would make sense that she looks different now after having plastic surgery due to the fire in the car crash. Her reasoning/excuse is illogical and seems disingenuous when reading her comments to “the producers” and their decisions. HA!
What a thoughtful statement, its so nice to see a celebrity care more about the fans and the integrity of a show then worrying about their own bank account and personal agenda. I’ve always been a huge fan of Victoria’s and though I would love to see her back on TV I know this is the right choice.
Please. Do you really think this is about “the fans”? What drivel. I respect her not wanting to appear on the show and I would assume she enjoyed doing so and it helped her career but at the end of the day it was a job. She’s not appearing because she has a super sucessful business and apparently has no desire to act. Saying it’s for the fans is just blowing smoke up our asses. She doesn’t owe anyone anything and for that I say “Good for you!” but leave the fan bullshit on the doorstep.
I find her position rather refreshing. Good for her.
I have now lost all respect for her. I was SO hoping Pam would come back. That would have been such a great storyline for Bobby, Ann, and Christopher. DAMN IT, VICTORIA!!!!
Recast! Get Jaclyn Smith on the phone!
Or get Pamela Sue Martin from Dynasty, now that would be fun since she left to be replaced by Emma Samms, or get Emma herself!
Emma sams would be great
now thats a good idea
I echo the sentiments that having a new actress play Pam makes the most sense. While I love Victoria, the fans deserve to have Pam Ewing return. Having a new actress play her will fill the void, bring back the character, and make a great addition to a great show
THEoriginal Steven came back in the Dynarty mini series
Hi hope Victoria reconsiders. I believe that the story of Bobby and Pam was left terribly unresolved, and that if she returned we would all feel very satisfied indeed.
Maybe she’s insecure about her looks and doesn’t want to be seen as old.
Having Pam return any Pam would be good…. the Ann character makes me uneasy…. she and Bobby just dont seem to fit. Maybe Im imagining it but I detect resentment in Principals words…. As for her not wanted to seem as old…. There are few people as vain…. shes had massive plastic surgery.
My thought exactly, that she maybe doesn’t feel glamarous enough to do the part. Or maybe she just wants to be begged, and begged, and begged. I loved her, but am doing OK without her.
Seem old…She is old…But you would think her make-up line would have her looking very confident and fresh..like a daisy.
Get off it. Sure, she’s older. We all get older. But look at Linda Gray. She’s still a very beautiful woman. It would be ridiculous if Victoria came back looking as young as she was when the old Dallas ended. Maybe she’s afraid of competition with Linda, whose role has improved the past few episodes, since the loss of Larry Hagman.
Pam Ewing has to return!! Agreed! Having the character back even as a new actress would re-energize Dallas in season 3. Personally: I think either Lesley Anne Warren or Pamela Bellwood would rock as Pam. Don’t get me wrong: I love Victoria Principal! Her Pam was legendary, but we the fans shouldn’t get cheated out of the character.
Do the world a favor, cancel this show, this is not Dallas , this is just a bunch of crap.
Haven’t seen this season, but I was shocked at how well-written the first season was. Brilliant? No, but neither was the original.
However, it definitely captured the flavor and tone.
Now if only they’d give Jordana Brewster’s character a personality (and perhaps a goal for her to work toward).
You sound like your really old. It’s a soap opera and wasn’t some holy grail even back in the day – Larry Hagman was excellent but other than that it was just a fun show.
Sometimes in life we do things we really don’t want to do in order to bring a little happiness to someone we care about. However, if she does not want to do it…thats her call. Really, the only people who still care are the old fans. As one of them…I would like to see her playing the role of Pam on DALLAS once or twice more…….but not enough to beg her to do it.
This could be one hell of a terrific trick of a press release to cover-up a possible Classic jaw-dropping Dallas Style Cliff Hanger.
NOTE: Gary & Valene will be back for the Funeral and with J.R. gone maybe Gary (whom J.R. originally sent to Knots Landing) will stick around and you know he had a gold digging of a ex-wife in Donna “Abby” Mills that could give All the Ewing’s a run for their money.
She’s not coming back – not now not ever! Let it go.
Well, that cleared a few things up. I never did like how it ended and now I see that wasn’t what Principal intended, but rather something they decided after she was gone. As sad as I was to see Bobby and Pam’s story end, personally I would have preferred that the car crash have been fatal. I originally thought they were doing what they did to leave room for Principal’s return, but then came the escape. The whole escape from the hospital bit was not a good storyline in my opinion. I remember sitting there thinking, “She is writing a lot of notes with 3rd degree burns”. It would have been better for her to die in the crash than be remembered for leaving Bobby and Christopher.
I don’t blame her for not wanting to return. Pam (whoever plays her) could not return for 1 or 2 episodes. She’s Christopher’s mother and Bobby and Cliff have also missed her. They character would have to come back and be a regular and Bobby has enough on his plate dealing with Ann.
We saw this same crap from the actress who played the original “Ginger” on Gillian’s Island. She didn’t want to take part in any of the reunions or movies because she thought she was bigger then the rest of them. Hey Victoria, keep your distance. No one is really missing you. I say cast an unknown that looks exactly like her and lets just close the book on V.P.
No one? Every fifth comment on their Facebook page is “Bring back Pam!!!” It’s become incredibly tedious.
I think the reboot should stand on its own. We don’t need an endless parade of original cast members coming back just for the sake of nostalgia.
Besides, after the plastic surgery following the crash, Pam no longer looks like Victoria!
Some comments here regarding Victoria Principle’s “attitude” about Dallas are unfair and not exactly true. Victoria appeared in the reunion show of the cast of Dallas. (As evident in the photo above).
Patrick Duffy and she spoke fondly of the characters Bobby and Pam.
look up on Youtube:
DALLAS – Victoria Principal and Patrick Duffy (Pam & Bobby)
I agree, however she did return for the reunion a few years back. I think she can`t act anymore myself. She wasn`t that great to begin with. I say recast her!
More importantly…NO ONE has approached NOR asked her to come back.
She’s trying to make this sound like it’s her decision.
She is being recast with Marcia Cross!
AS someone who has loved the show since day one and as someone who loves the current version of Dallas, I am really disappointed. I have never seen such a conceited woman. She is arrogant, and completely full of herself. You can see it and hear it in her interviews. Victoria is Victoria’s own sun on moon. She does what is best for her and has a higher opinion of herself than anyone else does of her. The way Andy Gibbs family felt about her ought to tell you enough. She has described a potential return of Dallas as desperate, pathetic, and spooky in recent statements. The only thing I find desperate, pathetic, and spooky is her belief that she is that much better than anyone else. If she looked half as good as Linda Gray (who is 10 years her senior) she might have a more of a leg to stand on in regards to her opinion of herself. Where would she be without the break that Dallas gave her. I doubt we would be talking about her today if she had never been on Dallas because quite frankly, everything she did before and after was all but forgettable. She may have a skincare company, but she will always be known as Pam Ewing. When she passes on, she will be referred to as the woman who played Pam on Dallas. As someone who has been a fan for a long time, I will not longer buy her “pathetic, spooky, and desperate” products. And you have my “bottom-of-the-jar-guarantee” on that. I really admire people who appreciate those that give them their big breaks in life and appreciate their fans loyalty.
You sound like a bitter producer who just found out his best chance to get a 3rd season just went down the tubes.
could not have said it better………….I did enjoy her on Dallas and wish she would come back but some people forget their beginnings .So sad…
Linda Gray has always been one of my favorite actresses on the show and she still looks just as beautiful today. Sue Ellen is actually Christopher’s biological Aunt (Kristin’s son). Too bad they couldn’t shed some light on this fact in the show. The writers and producers are disappointing to me in that they don’t incorporate old storylines in with the new show.
so glad someone brought that up! isnt christopher real dad jr aswell yet no reference to this is being made at all!
No, J.R. was/is not Christopher’s father. He thought he was for a while but he was mistaken. Jeff Faraday was Christopher’s biological father.
The new Dallas should use more little things to remind the viewer of the origins. They should throw a few bucks to the estates of Barbara Bel Geddes, Jim Davis, and Howard Keel and have some photos of them scattered around. They should spend some bucks to get some access to the original series for the purpose of flashbacks. They should use some recurring characters who originated on the old series instead of always making up new ones. For instance Alan Beame could have been brought back. Or someone else J.R. screwed over along the way.
Jordan Lee was Christopher’s father. Kristin was accepting money from him to keep quiet about it. They thought it was JR’s and Bobby bought him from Faraday changed the birth certificate and brought him home to South Fork to screw JR over and Pam (who couldn’t conceive) came down the stairs and thought Bobby had adopted him for them. Just like that … instant family. So, him and John Ross are first cousins on their mama’s side. The producers won’t bring it up because it never got brought up after that. Who would need to know. If you’re trying to stand on your own in the new Dallas, you can’t revisit everything in the past Dallas. I think they’re doing a good job with the old and new. As die hard, we want the old Dallas, but let the new have it’s place as the producers see fit. Before this, all we had were reruns!
Jordan Lee was Christopher’s father.
i just googled this linda grey and she looks hot..saw vp the other day and not as hot
It is nasty that she thinks she is so great. Frankly, I think she looks old for her age!!! Linda looks fantastic!!!
I love it when people tell you they know what other people think. Have you met VP? Can you read her mind? Has she told you what she thinks of herself, way down deep?
The storyline wasn’t resolved. Frankly how could they ever really wrap up the Bobby-Pam storyline when they brought Bobby back from the dead and he actually died on screen surrounded by loved ones. They had to pull the ‘dream season’ twist to bring him back. And after that season was the original Pam’s last season.
If integrity to the series is her reason for not doing a cameo then that’s a BS excuse, IMHO. he he. She may just not want to be scrutinized by the public, in an area she can’t control, aka non-informericals. Watching the series as a teen, my regret was she still had two or three good years in her and would have loved to see her on that show in her prime as Pam. Or at least made a cameo when it originally aired, so it would have improved the rewatchabilty, because the character had a bad ending and not a graceful exit.
I haven’t watched this season of Dallas, I need to watch the final two eps on my DVR before I start season 2. The ratings haven’t been impressive, but hopefully it can somehow get renewed. I’d like to see the Pam character return. If not the original someone with more mileage, like 55ish actress. It’s a very important character to the show.
Everyone seems to think JR was looking for Pam, he was looking for Christopher’s biological mother not Pam. Kristin really did kill JR this time. No need to bring Pam back just yet, but enough peer pressure may bring Victoria back.
Kristen drowned!!!!!lol
