Warner Bros has moved the Robert De Niro-Sylvester Stallone fight movie Grudge Match to January 10, 2014 from November 15, 2013. Kevin Hart plays the promoter in the project directed by Peter Segal. Tim Kelleher wrote the script and the most recent draft is by Entourage‘s Doug Ellin. The only other film currently set to open that weekend is Lionsgate’s tentatively titled horror movie Ghosts. And the studio set Andy and Lana Wachowski’s new sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending to open July 25, 2014. Sean Bean, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, and Mila Kunis star in the WB-Village Roadshow co-production. The only other movie slated opposite Jupiter is Paramount’s Hercules project with Dwayne Johnson.

I would think November would be a better date for the Stallone meets DeNiro flick.
They always dump stinkers in January. Sad with that talent… but I seriously lost all faith in De Niro when I read about this… can you say paycheck role and phone-calling it in…
Sly is my favorite action star. Ever since i was a kid, I’ve attended every Stallone film first show on opening day since 1985. Even when I knew the movie was going to be bad (Driven, Stop or my mom will shoot,) Bullet in the head was easily one of his worst in years. Really looking forward to Grudge Match…..hope he gets back on track with that project….it would break my heart to see Sly go direct to video.
SLY NEEDS KIP PARDUE, NOT DENIRO.
That sure shows a lot of confidence in Grudge Match.
So the most innovative and influential transgender filmmaker in history is facing off against the dickhead who had to quit the Oscars because of a disgusting anti-gay slur?
Something tells me Hercules is heading for an October opening.
“The most innovative and influential transgender filmmaker in history” – boy, that’s impressive. What, the most innovative out of a field of, wait, just how many? What’s with the labels?
This next Wachowski movie is going to be a epic blockbuster just like Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer…………
You think? I thought both of those movies were utterly chimerical. But I don’t see how you can lump this piece of coal in with them.
Think of the demo who will pay to see Grudge Match… easily over 35 or 40. That demo hardly goes to the movies anymore. They have careers, kids a busy schedule (and a fantastic home theater). i just don’t see them showing up. I love Deniro but it would be great to see him in something better than a movie with Stallone.
Did’nt Larry and Lana learn from the God AWful mess of Cloud Atlas….I am surprised they are getting funding from WB after the disaster from Cloud Atlas. Jupiter Ascending..???????? well who knows but their track record is not the best so far…
Gee, I dunno. Maybe that Matrix movie thing?
If everyone who made a movie that lost a lot of money after making one that made a LOT of money were out of the business, there’d be a lot fewer directors.
And scheduling a movie takes in a lot of factors. It’s all a game of theatrical chicken, and yes, pics are pulled and placed later, if the draw seems to be against a high opener.
Oh Please, since when was ‘Grudge Match’ supposed to be this cinematic masterpiece that was headed for the Oscars??
Lol It’s a freaking comedy that BOTH De Niro and Sly decided to do for the money, fun or what have you. I don’t know why folks on here are acting surprised or disappointed.
