History’s Mark Burnett-produced The Bible ended on Easter Sunday with 11.7 million viewers. That was up 14% from the 10.3 million who watched last week’s penultimate episode of the 10-part miniseries. Last night’s episode pulled in 3.8 million viewers among adults 18-49 and 4.6 million adults 25-54, a 12% and 18% jump, respectively, in the demos from last week. However, it is down from the series’ debut, when The Bible premiered with a two-hour episode March 3 with 13.1 million viewers. It had 4.6 million adults 25-54 watching and ranked as the top cable entertainment telecast year-to-date. Based on the strength of Bible and other series, it looks like History will end March the top cable network in total viewership and adults 25-54.
The Bible attracted controversy in its third week when the actor who portrayed Satan seemed to have a strong resemblance to President Obama. Burnett and his wife, fellow executive producer Roma Downey, called the issue “utter nonsense.” The Bible garnered 10.9 million total viewers that week, up from the 10.8 million the show received in its second episode March 10.
