The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, the first movie in the series, doesn’t come out until August, but buyers will get a taste for its sequel during Cannes. Stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower are returning for part two, The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes, as is director Harald Zwart, and a fall start is planned. As it did with the first, Mister Smith Entertainment is selling the adaptation of the second book in Cassandra Clare’s fantasy series that’s produced by Constantin Film and Unique Features.
The first installment, which Screen Gems releases August 23, sees seemingly ordinary teenager Clary discover she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. The sequel picks up in New York’s Downworld, where Clary is overwhelmed with the responsibility of her new role as a Shadowrunner. Her mother is still in a magically induced coma, her newfound father is an evil Shadowhunter rebel, and things are more than complicated with Jace, the boy she loves. But she still must pitch in to help save the world. Robert Kulzer is producing for Constantin alongside Don Carmody. Executive producers are Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne for Unique, and Martin Moszkowicz for Constantin.
