May 15, 2013 – Cannes/Santa Monica- Myriad Pictures and Depth of Field, in association with Culmination Productions announced today that Seann William Scott (Role Models, American Reunion, Goon) will star in the comedy Guidance. Written by Matteson Perry (Cops & Robots) and directed by Ira Rosensweig (Think Tank), the film tells the story of a down-on-his-luck high school counselor who begins to alter transcripts to help a student that reminds him of himself. Guidance will also star Leslie Bibb, as the new teacher who is the object of Scott’s affection, and who ultimately inspires him to become the best version of himself. Myriad has acquired worldwide distribution rights, and will be selling the film at this week’s Cannes Marche du Film.

In the film, Scott plays a disillusioned guidance counselor who sees a wayward student heading down the same road he once traveled. He takes it upon himself to lie on the student’s behalf to get him into a better university, hoping to give him a chance at a better life. This leads to a comedic web of deceit for which neither he nor the student were ready.

Guidance is to be produced by Depth of Field’s Chris & Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano (Admission, A Single Man, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, About a Boy; creators of American Pie franchise) and Tom Butterfield of Culmination Productions. Ira Rosensweig and Pavlina Hatoupis will also serve as producers. Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico will serve as an executive producer on the film. Depth of Field’s Dan Balgoyen will co-produce. Rosensweig is repped by WME and Caliber Media. Perry is also repped by Caliber.

The project reunites Myriad with Scott, who memorably starred in the company’s recent hit comedy Goon. Rachel Tenner is on board to cast the remaining roles.

The project was brought to Myriad by Mark Padilla, VP Sales and Distribution. Myriad’s Kevin Forester, CFO, and David Ducar, SVP, Legal & Business Affairs, negotiated worldwide sales rights to the film for Myriad Pictures, with Andrew Miano of Depth of Field.

Said Myriad’s Padilla, “We are thrilled to be working with Depth of Field on this very funny and heartfelt commercial comedy, and Seann is perfect for the role. Whether he is playing Stifler from the American Pie films, or a hockey enforcer in Goon, he makes these characters endearing to audiences worldwide. We couldn’t be more pleased to have him aboard.”

Depth of Field’s Miano said, “We love the way the pieces have fallen into place on this project. Adding Myriad to the mix has strengthened the package and we are excited for them to get down to business at Cannes.”
