Herzog & Company has brought Nicole Zien on board as Head of Development, Original Programming. The former CMT Senior Director of Development & Production has been charged with expanding the Killing Lincoln and Gettysburg production company’s further reach into nonscripted series and specials, across all platforms.

“Nicole brings a wealth of knowledge to HCO not only with her experience on the network side, but with emerging talent on the digital front,” said the company’s VP Original Programming Chris Cowen in a statement today. Zien will report to Cowen and CEO Mark Herzog. Before her six-year stint at CMT, Zien was at Fox TV Studios managing development and production on shows like The Shield. She has also worked in alternative series development for Dick Clark Productions and MTV. Produced with Scott Free Productions and based on Fox News Channel host Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s book of the same name, HCO’s Killing Lincoln premiered on National Geographic to network record-breaking 3.4 million viewers on February 17. Killing Lincoln was the first original factual drama from the network. HCO previously partnered with Scott Free in 2011 on Gettysburg for History. In 2012, the company’s documentary Space Shuttle Columbia: Mission of Hope debuted on PBS.
