The book editor who picked up Memoirs of a Geisha got a new job today. Robin Dessler was promoted to the newly created position of VP, Editorial Director at Alfred A. Knopf by company chairman and Editor-in-Chief Sonny Mehta. At the same time company VP, Senior Editor Jordan Pavlin was also bumped up to VP, Executive Editor by Mehta. Among the numerous books she brought the company’s way over her years at Knopf, Pavlin acquired and edited the Pulitzer Prize winning A Visit From The Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. HBO picked up the book in 2011 for a possible TV series. Both appointments take effect immediately, Mehta said today.
