The streaming service seems eager to reassure parents that it’s still a good deal for them despite the recent loss of kids’ shows following the expiration of its carriage deal with Viacom, which owns Nickelodeon. Netflix says that a new page on the site, Netflix Families, is “designed to meet family’s summer entertainment needs.” It will include “trusted recommendations of popular family TV shows and movies” as well as info about the best ways to use the service. Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos says viewing by kids and families increases about 30% over the summer. The new page will help by using “our proprietary algorithm to create lists we think families will love.” That includes content that kids can watch on tablets at the airport and fare that “will help keep kids’ minds active during the summer months.” Yesterday Netflix cut a deal with DreamWorks Animation that will add new programs based on the studio’s characters beginning in 2014.
