EXCLUSIVE: Comedy writers/directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord have hired Comedy Central executive Seth Cohen as President of Television at their Lord Miller television company. After spending the last seven years focused solely on features, Lord and Miller signaled a return to television in May with a three-year pod deal at 20th Century Fox TV to develop, write and direct their own comedy projects as well as supervise other writers’ projects.
Cohen spent the last seven years as VP of Development and Original Programming at Comedy Central where he was instrumental in developing such series as Workaholics and Drunk History. Before Comedy Central, Cohen worked at DreamWorks TV and in politics both on and off the hill in Washington, D.C. “I’ve been a fan of Phil and Chris for a while and never had the opportunity to work with them as an exec so I jumped at the chance to partner with them at their own company,” Cohen said. ”I think there’s a real opportunity to combine their success in both live action and animation with my passion for comedic voices with a point of view and develop funny, smart, original programming that impacts pop culture.”Said Lord and Miller, “We are thrilled and lucky to partner with someone as smart and rigorous as Seth Cohen. We have great respect for his taste, his experience developing hilarious television and for his ability to grow sweet beards.”
On the film side, Lord and Miller, repped by UTA and Matthew Johnson and Sam Fischer, are currently writing and directing the animated adventure-comedy The Lego Movie for Warner Bros and are attached to direct 22 Jump Street, the sequel to the hit action-comedy 21 Jump Street, which they also directed. The pair recently sold Miller’s spec script The Reunion to Sony Pictures, which will be directed by Miller and produced under the Lord Miller banner. In 2009 they made their directorial debut with another Sony pic, animated feature Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.
