It’s almost a rule of reality thumb – put Paula Abdul on a judging panel and you are guaranteed to see some sparks. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite turn out that way ratingswise for So You Think You Can Dance (1.5/5) last night on Fox. The former American Idol judge and choreographer joined Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, as well as fellow guest judge Erin Andrews on the dance competition show on Tuesday but the ratings on the two-hour broadcast stayed flat with last week as one dancer was eliminated and one withdrew.
There were no guest judges but there was a slight upward turn on America’s Got Talent (2.5/7) on Tuesday. The highest rated and most watched show of the night with 9.49 million viewers, the two-hour AGT was up 4% from last week’s season low. That was slim pickings compared to the rise of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers (1.0/3) at 8:30 PM. After hitting a series low on July 2, the season finale of the hidden camera show was up 25% this week. While last night’s finale was down 33% among adults 18-49 from the season ender on May 23 last year, it is important to note that last year had an original lead-in, unlike last night, and was in-season. Having said that, even the 8 PM Off Their Rockers repeat last night was up too – rising to a 0.9/3 from last week’s 0.8/3. NBC won the night among adults 18-49 and in total viewers with 7.609 million watching.
Over on ABC, more pounds were shed on Extreme Weight Loss (1.1/3) but the show packed on some needed ratings. The reality competition rose 10% among adults 18-49 last night from its season low tie on July 2.
